I saw 2 other SMs that day trying to kite there and they deliberately avoided killing the Kaidan Scouts because of the range attack.
I found Earth Spirit II to be very effective here. Hit aether jelly, buff the pet and it puts out moderate DPS, and if I have to keep max kiting distance to avoid flying spears or die, the pet usually picks aggro up at that point. I usually run in to fear the mob and heal the pet, except the wind pet goes down in 3 hits and the water pet dies when looked at and the fire pet just isn't as durable as the earth pet when the primary purpose for the pet against ranged mobs is to soak up damage in place of me if my stone skin drops and/or my health pots are still on recharge.
