Same reason SOE still clings on to EQ and EQ2

You miss the point... EQ and EQ2 are designed for the EU and US markets. Aion is designed for the Asian market. Releasing it here was never going to be more than a very temporary success. It's simply the wrong type of game to keep a large number of players from EU/US interested. Perhaps shifting the number of units they initially did was enough to make the launch profitable?

Explain to me how making a product for the target market translates into immediate and guaranteed success because that idea seems pretty irrelevant to what makes a product good in quality or not.

I can see if PP made your post because I'm not likely to believe any text out of those because it's a cry for attention disguised as a bad troll since nobody else would waste time like that.

What I do realize after not playing EQ for a while is that by far this community is not the largest (I'm guessing since this game isn't on top in the MMO scene, I've been fed this eliteist drivel trying to show me how "hard" or "superior" EQ2 is to another game) even though I've been convinced otherwise in the past and just because I don't like a particular video game doesn't mean its players don't exist.

The only thing I don't entirely understand is L2 and Aion seem to be direct competitors. I'm not sure why NCSoft would do that. But either way, I'm sure they made enough money off of US box sales to justify it's release; it was the only dog in town for a few months.

Now, if only someone could strike an appropriate balance between grindcore and casual maybe both demographics could be tapped.

Part of L2 being so huge is its private server community keeping interest in the game one way or another. I think the hardest part (possibly the only when I think about it) about balancing those two styles would be rewards. It's hard to convince people that have put a ton of time into the game that they don't deserve better reward than someone who only has a little time to play every day.

L2 is failing and most people just play it on private servers, Aion had a perfect window for its launch, there was nothing else and the game got attention.

The beta went well and it was a very good game, but then their brains spasmed and they added 5 more levels without any content except in a secluded PVE enviroment.
I was on the biggest Eu server in one of the hardcore pvp guilds and i can tell you this alone made so many people quit that the rest of the server failcasceded and spatalos is now a minor eu server i think.

If they would have been just more careful about what content they add, this game would have drawn in way more people than L2 would have lost. It could have been one of the major major mmos and not just a quick sidekick.

Oh and: the problem wasnt so much the grind for many, but the promise of daoc like realm skirmish, which they destroyed at the last freaking second. people found out at 46 and just left without looking back after the warhammer disappointment.

Turn your question round the other way and it's relevant to my post. Making something for the target market does not guarantee success at all. However if you're making something which is designed for a specific market, then targetting it at another market, you can be fairly sure of failure.

What the fuck are you talking about?

It's not the largest no. But really, ask yourself, do the other games even have a community at all? WoW is by a huge distance the largest MMO, but communities barely exist outside of guilds. As for Aion, I saw so many people jump ship after a few weeks of play, it really must be getting thin on the ground now. It's not only that it's clearly aimed at the asian market (see graphics for a start, although there's far more to it than that), it's also quite simply, not very good.

Why do you continue posting here piss poodle? Your opinion obviously means nothing to anyone, anywhere.

My account is still active, but I'm waiting for 1.9 to become live before I play it again. Game just has very little playable content end game unless you dont mind pvp 24/7, which wouldnt be bad if I didnt enjoy my chanter so much.

If you get rid of this one, may as well get rid of the WoW ones imo. Far as fun factor and playability, Aion far exceeds wow. Raided for 2 months on my 80 hunter in WoW before I got completely bored with it.

yeah I don't get this post at all, maybe it's due to lack of context. if you bothered to raid for two months in wow and were bored with it, that denotes interest in pve, for which you certainly aren't headed to aion to improve on.

pvp is another story, but you didn't mention that so I won't comment.
