My only spy session was to get the all classes achievement, and the 2fort round lasted forever!

So whats the big beef with the spy? I find them incredibly easy to spot.

Re: Team Fortress 2 (and The Orange Box)
It's mainly the vast majority of people who play Engineers and Spies, and the fact that a team might have 10 spies at any given time.
A good Engineer can keep his shit safe, and a good spy can wreak some havoc, but usually neither are present in most games, so there's endless bitching about:
a) How overpowered the sentry guns are
b) How the lack of friendly fire means you can pick off spies by shooting at everyone, teammate or not
c) How impossible it is to detect a spy, and how they wiped out the poster's entire team
d) How underpowered the sentry guns are, and how spies can take them down while the engineer naps on the other side of the map
That's by far the worst set of discussions, even worse than people claiming the demoman and scout are alternately worthless and match dominating in the same post.
I just mock spies because I'm on the other side of the fence as a regular engineer player, and I usually run around looking for spies to shoot in the back.

Re: Team Fortress 2 (and The Orange Box)
Ahh ok. Just friendly shit talking then.
I play pretty much all the classes. I've played spy and engineer alternately the most. I fancy myself a "good" spy, but i agree as long as an engineer is watching their stuff, its hard quite a pain in the ass to take out that sentry. I've found that having played a spy quite alot, i've found it pretty easy to spot that spy in a crowd. In one server where i played with team damage on, i found it was far to easy to be a spy. I eventually had the opposing team so "worried" that after i switched classes they were still shooting each other to death.
I find it amusing that you'd say scout or demoman are terrible, since lately i've found myself kicking ass big time as a scout. Their extreme mobility makes them pretty damn hard to kill, except by heavy's and sentry gun's. As for the demoman, i'd say they are better than the marine in most ways. The rockets from the marine are so slow you can practically run circles around them before they explode.
After playing the pyro a bit more, they certainly arent terrible, but i hate the fact that they'll light people on fire, but they still take so long to die that they'll usually kill you before they burn up.
Marine is the only class i almost never play, i'd rather play the demoman.

I like the scout and demoman, but that's another one of the godawful debates currently going on. It's like EQ2 class balancing stuff, but imagine if everyone on EQ2Flames was 12 years old.
The only class I really hate playing is the sniper, and that's not really because of a problem with the class, but because I can't hit shit with the sniper rifle. He's surprisingly good in close quarters with the submachine gun, though.

Re: Team Fortress 2 (and The Orange Box)
I felt the same way, then i forced myself to sit down and dick around with the sniper. The rifle takes alittle getting used to, but with practise its not terrible.
The problem is it's a class that serves very little real purpose. Unless your good enough to headshot everyone, it just damages people. Which is neither offense or defense. Just hurting them just delays their trip to wherever they are going, since they'll swing by a med kit which are sprinkled around.

Re: Team Fortress 2 (and The Orange Box)
Snipers can be badass but pretty situational. They're really useful for offense on all the dustbowl levels and for defense on the first one. Don't think I'd ever play one on any other map. Body shots will 1 shot a lot of classes and headshots are extremely easy to get on engineers and heavies. They're also pretty good at taking out sentry guns from a distance.
Anyway, at some point I've thought that every class was over-powered so now I think they're just all equally over-powered and therefore balanced. The random crits still piss me off though.

Re: Team Fortress 2 (and The Orange Box)
There's a formula to anticipating crits, but nobody's got it worked out yet. Once they do, games are going to become nasty.

Re: Team Fortress 2 (and The Orange Box)
Well, the better you do the more crits you get. I've noticed the same sort of thing. Once you die tho it seems to reset. I think.
Not sure how someone will be able to take advantage of that.
