Re: TBC Delayed for polish
I think moving back was a good idea on their part, I mean by then all the high end raiding people will be bored with this game again, and by then we will all want to go play WoW for the new expansion... The only bad part I think about WoW is all of the 10-12 year olds running around, kind of reminds me of the old free MMO gaming days... So let's quit delaying the inevitable we all know we want to try the raiding content from what we have heard...

Can't compare music to a game....
Its popular cause its fun.. music is much more ran by fad type buy frenzy
People don't play games and will never play a game cause its the "cool thing" to do...

Re: TBC Delayed for polish
EQ2 has fanbois'
WoW has fanbois'
EQ2 has 300k subs
WoW has 7 million subs
If WoW pisses off 10% of there sub base with releasing TBC a couple months later, and they quit....that is still more then double the whole EQ2 population.
Does that above comment really even fucking matter...no I just like throwing numbers around...lol
Fact is when you have 7+ million subs, who the fuck cares if you piss off 10% of the people.

Bullshit. People will play a game because it's the "cool" thing to do. You really think the majority of the WoW people play WoW because they think EQ2 sucks? Think again, they play WoW because it's the "cool" thing to do, and they've never even touched EQ2.

Very good point.....people flocked to WoW because of the popularity of Battle.net....most of those people never touched Everquest, EQ2 or anything else.

If only SOE did more advertising. =p
But anway, I think blaming battle.net is a major cop out. The EQ1 audience was a huge draw to EQ2, and most of those people still quit EQ2 and migrated to WoW. I imagine I know about 20 people left on Blackburrow from the launch, and I know a lot of people.

Except the EQ1 audience was never compared to 5 million people like the Warcraft 3, Diablo 2, and Starcraft Audience is.

So are we going to throw in EQ1, SWG, Matrix Online, and Planetside too? The only reason they never reached those numbers is because they never made a game for the masses.
It's easy to pass the buck, truth is the game sucked in the beginning. The newbie isle was awful.. they promised us Lavastorm when it wasn't even in, they promised us Frogloks when they weren't done. They've progressed in many areas, but sometimes it's too little too late.
If they had the polish that WoW had at launch, EQ2 would be doing a lot better. And by the looks of things Blizzard will continue to have more polish in TBC and SOE will continue to rush content out too soon in EoF.

I think it's because they never had huge popularity from before. It's fucking Blizzard. Shit, I bet if Valve were to make a MMO, it would get numbers just as big as WoW. Why, because it's Valve, who everybody thinks is badass and loves them to pieces. There are so many people who have played a Blizzard game before and liked them, whereas consider how small SoE's subscription base has been, it probably has only been around a million total people I bet. Whereas Blizzard has 5 million on day 1 of everygame they've sold. Think about it, 5 million people who have bought Warcraft 3, vs. every game SoE has sold, yah Blizzard is just popular. This is the way things work, I would bet if WoW was a piece of shit, there would still be a million or more subscribers, because it's Blizzard.

I'm sorry, I don't see it, sounds like a crutch argument to me. Sure, it helps, but it doesn't keep people subscribed. WoW is the only game Blizzard has offered (to my knowledge) with a monthly fee.. and that's hard to sell people on.
You're comparing free services like Valve and Battle.net and saying the directly translate to a montly fee service, and while I'll agree there is some carry over. I do not think it's even close to the reason WoW is popular. Guildwars is popular because it's free.. Lineage is popular because it has global appeal (another globe!).
EQ2 has lost most of its users because of game play.. not because they didn't have battle.net.
(I mean, is there any reason EQ1 should still have more subscribers than EQ2?)
