Brilliant Marketing: WoW free, including box gamw
Check this out, subscribe to Direct TV and get WoW free for a year. They will even toss in teh game itself if you need it.
SOE could learn from Blizz marketing
Championship Gaming Series

sure they can lol... they are SONY remember.
I think it's a bad deal for directtv or whatever, because anyone that gets into WoW will cancel directTV and never watch it again

Re: Brilliant Marketing: WoW free, including box gamw
So if spend like $75 a month not including the cost/rental of DirecTV for equipment over 11 months I get a $20 game and $150 worth subscription fees? I'd prefer they give me free equipment.
The people they are marketing this to are so into games they watch an entire channel about it. They already KNOW what WoW is and have probably played it if they are going to. Not only would I call this an ineffective marketing strategy, I'd say it was a poor use of resources.

So if someone gave you a free copy of EQ2, and expansions, and they paid one year of it for you, you wouldn't capitalize just for having satellite tv? I would, HOWEVER, you wouldn't catch me dead purchasing DirecTV.

If it were advertised to general DirecTV customers and not on a site about a videogame channel yes I would. If you go to their main site, you won't see a peep of this.
I think they can do better with that many resources.

Re: Brilliant Marketing: WoW free, including box gamw
I think it's a smart move for DirecTV they are riding on WoW. I don't think this was a bad move for WoW they pretty much dabble where ever people ask them to....credit cards, sat. subs., what's next? Aside from seeing their merchandise in stores like Hot Topic and game stores.... what if anything do you see of EQ2 marketed like this?
EQ2 is marketing their LoN though, I got some junk mail yesterday (snail mail) but haven't looked at it yet. They sent one post card for each account I had. But I still wasn't interested enough to actually read it :p
