Re: Age of Conan reviews
I just started it for an hour or so.
at first the combat was real cool blood and stuff, after an hour it was ,,,no big deal.
Sort of reminds me of eq2 to be honest, the start anyway.
I got a question about the combat though, the white lines of the bad guy is where he is protecting so you hit on the other side....I got that,,,but every once in a while I saw a yellow flash ,,,,is that where he is attacking you at? and if so, what are you supposed to do about it?

Re: Age of Conan reviews
Ok, you get the same 3 parenthesis that the mob gets, where you set your defenses. It is set on 1 2 3 by default
You hold control, Then you can move each of your defenses around ... you can move one from number 3 to 1, so that you now have 2 (( on the one side by holding ctrl and hitting 3 1 . Same for moving your forward one ctrl 2 1... to move all three to one spot it's ctrl 11 or 22 or 33. Using this you can set up your defenses based on what you predict your opponent's pattern is, or by understanding the other classes enough to know which of their combos are used the most, and which ones deal the most damage (something I'm still learning myself)
Now add comboing to that. Your combo abilities each have an arrow on the icon indicating what attack button you have to follow up with... For the barbarian, There are few combo keys set up on the 1 key, most set up for the 2 key and some set for the 3 key. Your combos are key in even con fights with 3 or more mobs, but you should be comboing regularly no matter how many mobs you're fighting. The G15 is perfect for aoc because it has rows of 3 buttons, so you can set your left combo attacks on G1 G4 G7 G10 ... your forward attacks on G2 G5 G8 G11... and your right attacks on G3 G6 G9 g12 and it will make combos make some easy controllable sense that you can work with to get past the mobs' defenses.
A combo that ends in a finishing move nets you other gains, such as fast stamina regen, so timing your combos is important.
That's just the beginning. I think you'll find that while you can play it like Eq2, you'll only be able to play it WELL when you learn the whole of the game mechanics, and not just whacking 5-7 buttons for the first hour

Played up to lvl 12 last night, and I have to say I'll only log in EQ2 to raid. Really enjoying AoC so far.

Re: Age of Conan reviews
didn't see any yellow flash, gotta pay more attention next time. The defense set up with 1-2-3 is a bit fucked up,; trying to mash buttons and hold cntrl+1-2-3 at the same time while timing combo'sfollowed by correct directional attack. . Gonna try and macro it tonite to eliminate the control button, and move from the 1-2-3 keys down to something else.
totally different from eq1 and eq2. I really don't care for some of the mechanix, but not all that bad. e.g., showing your name above your toon and watching it move up and down as you traverse terrain, like it's in a fixed setting, and as you walk up a hill, your name slowly drift downwards over your head, and vice versa. The display of other toons names don't become visible until you're almost on top of them. other than that, so far so good

Re: Age of Conan reviews
Maybe I'm missing something because I haven't played it, but what's the point of even having combos if the de facto standard is going to be to macro them?

Re: Age of Conan reviews
I honestly don't believe the really good players (especially in PVP) are going to be able to macro most of their abilities. From the Nuances that I've seen, someone could easily run out of range of your melee attack while you were doing your macro and cause you to do about 15% of the regular damage. If you weren't macro'ing it, you have a timer on your abilities (roughly 3-4 seconds) where if you don't queue up the attack it's still viable. I.E. You start a combo and Wizard runs out of attack range to get away, you sprint and catch up a bit and THEN finish your combo and kill him anyways. If it was macro'd, it would go off and hit NOTHING, and you'd waste stamina doing it.
Just my 2 cents...

Re: Age of Conan reviews
i'm not macro'ing combo's. gonna macro defense positions. Unlike eq1 and 2, you actually have to angle your deflector shields in the direction of the attack if u want them to do less damage. and yes, i was just using a Han Solo reference. Buy the game u cheap bastard, and you'll understand that. wtf is wrong with you

Re: Age of Conan reviews
combos are nothing more then Combat arts in eq2. for example if you want to stun someone playing eq2 you move the "stun" icon to hot bar slot 7. then when you hit 7 its stuns your target
The only difference in AoC, as far as i can see, is that you put your "stun" in slot 7, you hit 7, but then you need to follow it up with either 1, 2 or 3 ((the swing direction)
then it stuns.
i am not sure if you can macro that, hit 7 have the macro automatically hit the swing direction, then yeah at the point it would be the same as eq2 or the other games, other then the fact that there is no auto attack and you have to swing by hitting 1, 2, 3, and you can defend, but i am still trying to figure out how you can defend

there are no good/bad pvp'ers in an FFA evironment. U can spawn camp *****s all day and rack up 200-300 kills easy in no time. Only rule is run like a muthafucka as best you can when a high level pk'er is on your ass. that's the double truth, ruth
