The only difference in AoC, as far as i can see, is that you put your "stun" in slot 7, you hit 7, but then you need to follow it up with either 1, 2 or 3 ((the swing direction)
then it stuns.
i am not sure if you can macro that, hit 7 have the macro automatically hit the swing direction, then yeah at the point it would be the same as eq2 or the other games, other then the fact that there is no auto attack and you have to swing by hitting 1, 2, 3, and you can defend, but i am still trying to figure out how you can defend

this is true. except for the follow up directional attack that must follow the combo which means i gotta pay attention constantly to what i'm doing, and where the opponnent has his shields up.

Re: Age of Conan reviews
The combo system gets more complicated than just one button, I have a couple two button combos on my char and there might be more. I agree the deflector shields are a bit awkward and I'm interested in seeing how they play out. I think how you might end up using them is just knowledge of the mobs. For instance in PvE if you're up against mobs whose best combos end to the right you can set it 0, 1, 2 or something. And in PvP classes tend to have certain sides they prefer so you can do the same thing.
For raids they could play with it too. Might be interesting.
I have just set it to 1, 1, 1 so far though.

Re: Age of Conan reviews
If you notice you can also see what your enemy is using... so atleast in PvP youll probably want to learn what other players abilities do so you can react to them when you see them loading up on the "enemy casting bar"...
as far as combos go.. i know that for my class (hox) i have upgrades to my melee attacks to proc more damage.. so although i have to swing in multi directions to do the same thing i would on eq2, i will still do more damage... i will also need to pay attention to where my enemy switches its shields too so if im in the middle of activating a combo and he switches shields to that direction I have to cancel it out and do something else..
there will definately be a lot of combat tactics involved in AoC in the later levels when things get more complicated

Re: Age of Conan reviews
Also was just curious what everyone was doing for skills and abilities. Recovering sta while resting seems pretty useless to me and base health regen rates seem pretty high already so I didn't see a big need for bandaging (unless maybe it works during battle, hmm).
I forget what the other ones were but the only ones that seemed really useful to me were the run speed, run endurance, and climbing ones. Though I have yet to find a climbing spot that actually makes something easier instead of leading me to a dead end hehe. I'm guessing it'll be nice for PvP.

Re: Age of Conan reviews
Here's my question about the shields. In the top right image, the person is facing the attacker with 1 1 1. straight on hits a shield, and left / right hits the left/right shields. That much I think is right, however, in the top left image, if the defender is facing (west) would a left (attackerpov) attack strike an open area? or still the right (defenderpov) shield.
Then if a straight on attack would hit the right (defpov) shield, if you were fighting something to your west, and someone came up like the bottom image, would putting all 3 shields to the right stop the straight blows from the north attacker?

Re: Age of Conan reviews
well, if the mob/pvp opponent is facing away, they could move their shields to the bare area that you are attacking, if they want to, so yes, the bottom picture is correct. But what i've gathered so far, the shields, if mob or pvp has them all stacked together, does slow down damage, but does not stop it. Some peeps are too slow to figure out how to move shields around, so switching attacks from left to right and up messes them up.

Re: Age of Conan reviews
Another perception of in game UI:
so far i've noticed that on guild interface, you can not see how many guildies are online, and who is online. In grouping, if you are not in the near vicinty if a grp member, you have a hell of a time trying to find them. Last night there were so many people logged in, that White Sands had a few instances going, but you could not choose between them. U just zoned, and hoped that your grp was there, if not, u had to zone out, and rezone again, rinse and repeat, until u found them.

Re: Age of Conan reviews
Funcom failed on a lot of the "little things". Guild interface/management is just one of them. I find myself thinking often "x game had this then they changed it to y cause the original way sucked." It is like a lot of the little things people hated in other mmo's are also in AoC. Hopefully they learn...

Re: Age of Conan reviews
You can see a list of guildmates, it's in the friends tab (for some reason). Also, you can change between instances any time you want, you just use the tab in the upper-right corner to choose the individual instance. I agree, the UI needs some work and is not very intuitive, but at least it functions :P
Hopefully they will allow player-made custom UIs soon, this is honestly the only complaint I have about the game so far.
