The performance optimizations have gone a long way, the game is, as several people have stated, running very smooth. The servers are down for 2 hours atm. One thing Id like to point out is this dev team doesnt fuck around. They are intelligent and very dilligent when it comes to dealing with issues. The size of their team helps a lot, about 3 times that of eq2s. Grouping is a bit of a pain in the ass atm, found myself constantly asking "Where are you ?". The game is just more involved than anything out there atm. If you can run it, you should definately pick it up. Anyway, check it out or dont, in the end a few nerds from eq2 flames wont matter.

what's the response time like? combat system sounds pretty active and reactive... is there any sluggishness in the game's response?

So did they make items soul-bound?

What is the death penalty?

Thanks I'm sure i'll have a few more questions if people don't mind. I'm still unsure if i'll start playing it, i'm basically wondering what steps they took to 'dumb' it down for the mass market.

Items are not soul bound. Some items are no trade, but most are tradable.

Death penalty for PVE, similar to soul shards. You get a 30 minute debuff on you, and a tombstone where you die. Go retrieve the tombstone and the debuff goes away. The debuff itself is not a big deal, unless you get a bunch stacked on you.

Death penalty for PVP, you lose PVP xp. At least that is the way it was in beta.

So far I am very pleased with AoC. I was playing on closed beta for a few weerks and was able to see them add all of the miracle fixes in the last week. It is running smooth, seems like there are a lot of players in the early access so far, and very little glitches. I am looking forward to seeing more of it.

Ya its been the cleanest launch ive ever seen lag wise. Ive ran into one bug but I was able to gate out. No lag at all although it is limited, im not sure how many people got in compared to how many people will be playing on release date.

This was a predetermined amount of people for Early Access, so it is not really a "Launch" persay. On the 20th, when the game really launches, I would expect at least a few hicups.

Fuckin lovin it so far.. got lvl 20 last night and waiting for server downtime to finish up here atm.. I agree this is prolly the cleanest launch of a MMO I ever saw. Only one delay off the getgo and as of right now this is the first server downtime (Which if you read in between the lines is a mandatory nap time for those grinding hard) haha

When does that start happening? I must be too much of a lowbie to penalize.
