In the first 10 levels, I did 10 each of the herald and demonologist, I had some spell resists, but they were along the lines of 1 in 15 or 20. The spells on the demonologist were pretty deadly 1-3 shot affairs for almost every mob, lots of 1 shots. The first demo pet was a caster succubus and acted pretty much like a WOW imp... If it's not casting, it's just a buff bot. (actually, in wow, it's just a mana battery, but you get the idea... all casting, no melee...)
