Dragonica Online
Introduction
Introducing yet another generic MMORPG... only this time, it doesn't suck. Basically, stick together the combat and player advancement mechanics of Maplestory with the quest system of EQ2 and you get this game.
Dragonica is a European game currently in Open Beta testing. It is being developed by Barunson Interactive and being published by the company names you never want to see in on a video game. EVER. (I.E., THQ and gPotato.)
Basic Controls
The game itself is a 3D-side scrolling game. As paradoxal as it sounds, it's actually pretty entertaining. Because you don't "target' enemies, you're required to line up on the same horizontal plane as them in order to attack. (In other words, you have to be in a straight line.) Unlike most side-scroller MMO's, this game is 3D, so in addition to move horizontally and vertically, you can move through the foreground and background as well.
The arrow keys move you around. The "Z" button does stuff and makes Warriors and Thieves power up charge attacks. "X" is your basic attack. "C" makes you jump.
Classes
There are four classes to choose from when you start the game:
Warriors are the most underpowered class in the game, because they only take a little bit less damage than Magicians and their damage output isn't very good. They have a ton of stuns and knock-ups, though.
Archers are massively OP in PvP, due to the fact they can shoot an arrow that knocks you into the air and start shooting rapid-fire homing arrows at you that keep you into the air until you die. They're pretty average in PvE, as they don't have a ton of AoE abilities.
Thieves are the "Scouts" of Dragonica. They fight with claws, which is just cool, and they've got a lot of style to their attacks. They do the highest melee damage of all the classes.
Magicians are massively OP in PvE, due to the fact that they get about a thousand AoE attacks with fast recast and they hit the hardest out of any of the four starting classes. Surprisingly, they can take a hit better than Warriors. Early soloing can be difficult due to the lack of viable knock-up abilities.
Quests
The quest journal in this game only holds 10 quests, three special "Hero" (or early EQ2 Hallmark) quests and seven normal quests. But the majority of the quests aren't like the ridiculous quests in other generic MMO's, such as kill Mushrooms until you have 80 blue caps (which only drop 15% of the time anyways). Instead, most of the quests lean toward update-on-death systems, or collecting a few items with 90% droprates. There are, however, quests that require you to gether 80 blue caps from Mushrooms, however, these quests are totally optional and are put in for the fags that enjoy that sort of thing.
Gear
All armor in this game is generic stuff that you find off monsters or buy from Merchants. However, with a mechanic called "Soul Force," you can craft your armor into gear with decent stats that might be better than anything else you get for ten levels or so. Each item has a "Soul Force" number that determines its stats. You can destroy these items to obtain Souls, which you use to improve another piece of your gear... but the process doesn't work every time. You can also use Armor Enhancement or Weapon Enhancement Powder to improve your gear with a higher chance of success, but less benefits.
Ca$h $hop
Like every other generic MMO, this one has a ghetto Cash Shop where the items are only usable for 90 days or whatever. But this game is totally playable without having to look at any of that crap... unless, of course, you want to use appearence armor. Sometimes, the Magician's gay furry illusion is better than looking at your hideous toon. (More on Magician's sexuality later.)
Moar Classes
Once you hit level 20, you can choose one of two new classes.
Warriors can become offense-based Gladiators or defense-based Knights.
Archers can become single-target-damage-focus Hunters or AoE-damage-based Rangers.
Thieves can become single-target damage-focus Assassins or AoE-damage-based Jesters.
Magicians can become homosexual Battlemages or Jewish Acolytes.
There are even MORE job choices at levels 40 and 60, but I don't know anything about those. Generally, when you change classes, you get to choose if you want a new skill tree that focuses on offense, defense, single-damage, AoE-damage, or healing.
Spam Buttons
Surprisingly, the skills in this game AREN'T broken. Skills are gained like the EQ2 achievement tree, you spend points in skills you want to earn/improve. (For example, every Magician fag will spend max points in the Bhudda illusion which increases their Magic Attack and INT, but since US is touchy about Bhudda it instead turns them into even faggier white kittiens.) The skills tree is really what seperates the casualfags from the hardcorefags. The casualfags will spend points in every ability that looks cool, whereas the hardcorefag will pick one or two abilities they like and max them.
Fags
There are no RP'ers in this game, (thank God!) because this game has no lore... or at leas none that anyone pays attention to. But there are a bunch of fags that fail at English, (which is weird because I believe the North American client has its own servers) and always end their posts with "la," "le," "la~," or the best one, "lalela hun la~." Also, all Magicians are fags and all PvP Archers are North Koreans.
Conclusion
The game doesn't suck, despite the fact that it's still in open beta. It's definately the best free-to-play MMO out there, because the classes are semi-balanced (devs have only gotten the chance to break Warriors and PvP Archers) and there's upwards of 60 levels of content.
