You rarely end up actually playing him. Its just group candy.

Ah, now I gotcha. Make the healer for the buff bot, and go from there.

Just curious what did most of you guys think of Dungeon Siege? Just need a control.

How many hours of gameplay in Dragon Age?

Played the PS3 version last night and would agree with what most are saying here. A lot of micro managing to get the full potential out of each character. Too many cut scenes in the first couple hours. Also it is very linear so far.

I will say I do not find it too difficult however I am only playing on normal setting. I think I had one character die in one fight because I wasnt paying attention to his health. All in all though the game isnt bad but I wouldnt say buy it unless you really like these games or only get to play a few hours a week.

Couple that with the fact you're forced to constantly micro-manage your team or your group will be incredibly gimp spending most of their time using auto-attacks instead of specials.

Also, if you don't play a Warrior, I feel sorry for you because you'll end up playing the Warrior NPC more than anyone else. AoE taunts? Doesn't happen. Rogues get absolutely owned in most battles and Mages and Rangers often get stray adds beating on them because crowd control is awful.

The fact that it's "real-time" with pauses only adds to the frustration of having to queue and then quickly hit the space bar before the group screws up their next appropriate action. And let's not get into camera views which despite scrolling in and out often give you awkward viewpoints.

EDIT:

You're not playing on EASY are you?

I'm playing on Nightmare, and I have the strategy guide which goes through some very good AI settings. I haven't had an issue with my mages or archers having LOS issues, I usually charge with my dwarven tank (My Character, Main) and the ranged people make up the difference easily.

Taunts are working fine for me, leave the constant effect one running, have the mage cast flaming weapons before fights.

Only real issue I had was having enough heal poultices in the beginning, but once I picked up the witch of the wilds and got to the town that finally sold flasks, it was all gravy.

You can put more than 1 weapon set on your characters, and in the beginning you find more than enough bows/swords so you can have both. If you find yourself getting wtfpwned across the screen by archers, switch everyone to ranged weapon loadout.

I really don't see the issues most of you are complaining about, unless you have everyone in your group running in trying to tank and spank everything, that only works in fights where you outnumber the enemy.

Also you have to pay attention to flanking damage, mobs do more damage from the side/back than from the front, and they WILL move to utilize it.

So is this game worth buying at all if we are looking for something more like baldurs gate dark alliance? or is it more like old old school baldurs gate?

Despite it's numerous flaws I still find it entertaining. The most frustrating part about the game is it is so close to being revolutionary. Regardless, with the DLC's they've already planned for the next 2 years and the free toolkit that will probably produce some nice (free) expansion content. I think its a good title to have.

As for a BG comparison; I'm not well versed in either. But this game is very linear and not "open world" like BG.

He's DLC (pay) content I believe because I haven't seen him yet. So far the only companion I "like" is Zevran.

It's kind of counter-intuitive since there is also a rogue talent that takes into account your cunning instead of STR for dmage purposes, but you need to have STR just to use the weapons to begin with, so the talent is useless when you consider youre going to need STR to equip items as well as do decent damage with the best ones (swords, maces, axes).
Unofficial patch for Rogues/DEX here.

But this quote would concern me if I had a Rogue (from a Senior Designer):

On a dagger (and believe me, daggers don't really cut it in mid-endgame due to their limited attribute modifier potential), the impact in early game is actually not that much. Not enough to even notice in fact.
