GW2 Beta
Discuss.
Love the graphics, animations, cosmetics. Didn't get to explore the PvE side as much as I wanted to, though.
Loved the PVP even though I was really bad at it. Looking forward to practicing and competing later on.
Oh, hey, SWTOR, GW2 had server transfers IN THE BETA. GG.

Re: GW2 Beta
Pros:
- massive world (or so it seems)
- story mode is good
- fantastic art design
- character movement seems much more natural than Rift, WoW etc (though sadly, EQ2 still the best there)
Cons:
- dynamic events either impossible (too few people) or just massive zergfests (but hey, the whole concept of these is a freaking joke, much like it was in Rift and WAR)
- combat is sorta weak... too repetitive, too spammy, too chaotic, too sparkly, no clue what the fuck is going on in big fights, PvP or PvE... which leads to...
- switching to ranged (played Thief, switched to pistols), stand there and get gold achievements in DEs... basically, ranged toons can kite shit with ease
- character design is shit... you can move that bar all you want, changes are miniscule
All in all, definitely much more excited about this than I ever was about Rift (for example), but the combat is really not good at all for my liking.
Plus I don't see any strategy or tactics or skill needed for nearly anything in PvE.
So, I like it, but I'm not sure it's gonna hold my interest once the novelty wears off.

Re: GW2 Beta
The combat was great. If you were dieing at the events you are either blind to the ground clues on the huge attacks or under leveled for them.
Getting hit? Do a barrel roll (Z or R twice)!
The damn particle effects are rediculous but there are still ground clues you can always see. Dive out of the circles.

Re: GW2 Beta
I only saw some videos on youtube but I can't wait to try the combat. The concept is pretty cool.

Re: GW2 Beta
Alot of complaints about the particle animations. Hopefully they tone them down.

Re: GW2 Beta
The world is absolutely beautiful. Loved the character animations and particle effects, although I agree with everyone that they are too dense. The cities felt alive with all the ambient noise and voiceovers, and I must say the look of the Asuran gates is just amazing! The renown hearts were a nice twist on quests and I enjoyed the dynamic events. The few zones I were in were absolutely massive. Overflow servers are an excellent system, and will be perfect once you can join your friends. On the player vs player side of things, I really liked the match browser. Didn't play too much of the matched pvp because all of the abilities were overwhelming to learn, but it was fun. World vs World was definitely epic, albeit a zerg fest it was still totally fun.
