Re: Some Stories just have to be told......
I will start by saying I do not know the person who started this post, nor do I know the person that made the first negative response. Therefore I will not speak out against them. I have no ill will towards any and when this is all said and done, I look forward to playing with either of you, in any zone, for any cause.
The thread makes mention of three members of the main tank group of an allianced guild named Blood Rain, allied guild Ancient Prophecy. Lets first discuss exactly who we are talking about as the names will come out eventually anyhow. The three players in question here are myself, Sall Amander lvl 80 Guardian, my wife Pebles lvl 80 Defiler, and our best in game friend Kanschie lvl 80 Coercer.
The situation as discussed is completely true, through the eyes of someone that knows nothing of the full truth. Here is the actual progress of occurances from the beginning.
My wife and I have played this game together for over 2 and a half years. I myself have played everquest 1 and everquest 2 since 1999. I am very familiar with what makes a good player, a good group, a good raid and a good guild. One of the biggest problems that my wife and I continually ran into was the constant power problem of my Guardain. Then we met Kanschie in a PUG in SOS. Call it love at first channel. From that moment, the three of us were pretty much joined at the hip. Each time we tackled a new zone, the three of us would do it together. Each time one needed money, a mob, or a quest completed, the other two were there. Still today, where one goes, the other two are not far from them.
We made our own guild called Tribute and we constantly grinded out RoK zones to level and gear our char's the best we could. All the time we constantly invited any players for the PUG's of the zones. We became aware of the knowledge that we were pretty much capable of running any RoK zone with the three of us and any three other players. This started the making of our friends list where we kept in contact with those players from the PUG's that we liked the most. We still talk to most of those players today.
As we all well know, grinding out the same zones over and over again becomes tiresome and somewhat boring. That is when we decided to search for a guild. I knew that both an 80 defiler and an 80 coercer would be a welcomed asset to most any guild, however an extra 80 guardian is no more than a burden. We created a vast list of possible guilds and spoke with many officers, members and leaders. We finally came down to a very few guilds, and at the top of that list was Ancient Prophecy.
We contacted the leadership of Ancient Prophecy and were allowed to particpate on a Protector's Realm raid with them. The raid did not go so well and I am not sure we even killed the first mob. During that raid it was made mention that the alliance guild did not show up, or was not able to send as many players as normal and therefore they had to get alot of pick up players to fill the spots. The alliance guild was Blood Rain.
We played with several Blood Rain members over the course of the next week and found them to be pretty good players. The entire time, we continued to talk with Ancient Prophecy about thier guild. We participated in the next PR raid which went much better than the week before. Although not completely successful, we saw leadership in the Blood Rain ranks, since it was their turn to host the alliances raid.
We contacted the leader of Blood Rain, Zaxor, and spoke with him about his guild. It became known quickly that he was former military, as are the three of us. This one fact is what made us pick Blood Rain over Ancient Prophecy. The comment from some Ancient Prophecy members about our decision to join Blood Rain over them was "It is okay, you will still be tanking for both of our guilds." And that is a completely true comment.
Over the course of a few months the BR/AP alliance has progressed from getting the dog snot beat out of them in PR, to nearly beating T2 raid zones on our first try. The alliance has been extremely good to both guilds, and all members of each. However, the three of us started noticing a trend.
A little over a month ago, the three of us started noticeing that not only was AP able to fill its alliance spots with ease, but it also was able to fill the slots that BR was not capable of filling on its own. The alliance raids went from a 50/50 split to a 55/45 and eventually as much as 65/35 split. It was becomming more and more evident that out of the two guilds, if the alliance was to split, AP would be the stronger of the two guilds, and more apt to survive the split. We became weary of BR's ability to hold together if such an occurance occured. As such, we started discussing possible solutions.
Some of the suggestions we had for ourselves was higher tier guilds, which we have had offers for. Even today, there are higher tier guilds which ask us if we will give them a shot. We discussed going to one of those guilds, going back to Tribute, or stay with our alliance and go to Ancient Prophecy.
All of these discussions started taking place long before Zaxor went into the hospital. Although I knew he was sick, I did not know it was to this extreme and that he would be undergoing such a surgery in the near future. It was a suprise to me on the day when Zaxor's wife asked me if I would maintain the guild during their absence for possibly a few months. I knew in my head the discussions that my wife and my friend were having, and I could not in true conscience give my word that I would give my all to BR in thier absence. Therefore I refused that position of authority.
During the very first week or two of the absence, we saw a tremendous decline in guild activity, especially in the raids. AP had to start filling more and more of the alliance spots and it went so far as AP had to ask friends and once or twice, in level chat, to fill the final spots.
During our discussions as to what to do with ourselves and our guild situation it was brought up amongst us on several occasions that we would all three feel somewhat like traitors to BR if we went to AP. However, we would feel like traitors to the entire alliance if we went to any other guild outside of the alliance. We reached the conclussion that the entire alliance was pretty much our guild and as such, going to AP would still be our alliance. We would still be tanking for, healing for and providing addittional resources for exactly the same people as we always have been for the last 3 months. We still expected traitorous comments and were not looking forward to them.
Up until this post, not a single comment has been made to me, my wife, or kanschie (to my knowledge) about our moving to AP from BR. We have grouped with BR members, AP members and the same friends we have always played with. The questions from BR or AP members about the move were asked directly to us in a tell, instead of spouted out in open forum for all to see. It had come to my assumption that there were probably only 2 to 3 people that were actually disgusted with our actions. I have not heard from any of the three in any form. I wish I would have been contacted so I could have set a few things straight before such actions as this started to occur.
In closeing all I can say is, I still play with my wife, my best in game friend, and I still tank for the same players I have been tanking for for the last 3 months. To me, the only thing that has changed is the words above my chars head. I will still attempt to play with old friends, attempt to meet new players, and will always hold one to two positions in most any group I make for some PUG players I do not know. That is me, that is the way I have always been, and that is the way I always will be.
There will be no further comments from myself, or my wife. However I can not speak on Kanschie's behalf for anything he might want to add. I hope you enjoyed the read, I hope you understand the truth in its entire form, and I hope to play with all of you in game soon. Send me an invite, and if not busy, I will accept.
