Default CA in raids vs groups

I'm curious how everyone else does when they group. I have a pretty severe drop in DPS. As a reference, in a raid where we don't wipe, I have no trouble getting 1.5k or better ZW, and individual fights can be around 2k fairly easily. But in most groups, I have trouble even getting 1k on individual fights. People I blow away in a raid are right there with me in groups, even beating me on some fights. About the only group zone where I can get close to a 1k ZW is unrest. It seems like I do better on longer fights. I've asked a similar question before and the response i got was that assassins should do even better in short fights.

So obviously, i am doing something wrong. What sorts of things do yall do differently in groups/short fights? The only thing i do different is move the big hitter up in line. Usually I go cloaked assault, bounty, MM, my HO macro (lucky break, enmesh or contrsiction, scraping blow), deadly wound, flowing wound, surveil, my biggest stealth attack and by then mob is usually dead. But if not, masked/puncture combo and I start cycling through the CAs.

I'm wondering if I should be bothering with the dots, and if maybe I'm waiting too long to attack (I have pretty much the same delay I use in a raid). Also, I always forget to use my temporary buffs, maybe i should use one of those on the pull?

My DPS in groups sucks because the mob is usually dead before I can get behind it as I won't group with anyone outside my guild. Assassins really aren't the best heroic class compared to casters as heroics die so fast we can't really get anything off.

Yes indeed, short duration fights are a caster or swashy's dream. If you have a tank that wont turn mob's and a bunch of John J. Rambo group member's that start firing off before tank even taunt's fight is over in a heartbeat. Raid's and high end guild group's is where it's at.

You can't really compare DPS in groups and raids. They're totally different things. As mentioned fight duration is a big deal, but don't forget buffs on you and debuffs on the mob.

Your DOTs often don't even finish on group mobs. But if you do all of your backstabs with concealment and it falls over right after that's a pretty good parse.

Yeah I see the same thing. In Epic encounters, I'll allow myself time to set up behind the encounter but for heroics. I run directly at the encounter regardless of position and as I'm launching attacks, I creep over to flank. Usually running in with Contrived Weapon, followed by Malignant, Lucky Break=>Constriction, Scraping, Masked Attack, biggest Stealth attack I got. By this time, the encounter is usually dead. If not and the guy is more resistant to dying, I'll throw in a Deadly wound or Freezing Strike after Scraping. Never Flowing Wound though, since it sucks for short fights.

I don't know how good that combo is but I do see a significant increase in parse over trying to set up for stealth attacks and more DoTs. If I try the ladder, the encounter is usually half-dead and at that time: caster's are pulling out the nukes and there's just no way to catch up.

I do an even bigger drop in parse when coming to group encounters. Even (pre)Stealth, Cloaked Assault, Surveillance, Slaughtersaut doesn't give me the parse I'd like.

Anyway thats my :twocents:

The problem you will find as well if you fire off you stealth CA's in 1 fight with concealment, at the speed of mobs being pulled they still may not have recycled by the next fight or the one after leaving you with no big hitters and lower dps for a while.

Raid give better dps as you have better buffs and more time to get attacks off but also gives time for them to recycle for the next pull, that just doesnt happen in a group.

I tend to not use concealment at all in groups as I prefer to spread my stealth attacks out a bit more so I always have 1-2 up and ready to go for every pull. Not sure how it affects my ZW but I never really parse in groups.

I pretty much work it like Kovakz. If you've got 3-4 people holding down 500-1500dps (it fluctuates wildly in groups) the mobs die in less than 10 seconds. I don't bother with dots, concealment and stealth nukes is all I have time to use :P
