Assassin can be a tough solo class until you get more familiar with maximizing the tools you have - with that said, soloing single mobs is relatively easy - it's group mob encounters that can be a pain in the ass.
I'm not sure if that is the same for a Brig or not - I'd presume not so much...I have never played a Brig, but they are definitely known to be a great solo class (and also bring great utility).
So playing an Assassin, DPS is your game, through and through.
Playing a Brig, you get to DPS while also bringing great utility to a raid - you probably would have more options because of the second part.
