Default Underwater Combat

Any tips. I am the first to admit I suck at it. Big time.

Case in point. I am tidying up the last few of the Danek Shipyard quests while heading to 80 (78.5 at the moment). There is a quest to kill 5 fish and 5 sharks.

Well I spotted a shark, stealthed, opened with decap and was doing quite well, stunned him with cheapshot and proceeded to swim (float) behind him to finish with masked strike and any rear attack when I get you cannot do a CA at this time. In the meantime Mr Shark recovers from stun and proceeds to take a few 1k bites (as mobs in this expansion like to do) and I die with the mob on like 7 per cent.

My question is simple. Was the CA blocked by some water combat mechanic I am unaware of, just the joys of trying to get in position while floating or possibly lag ??

Any tips appreciated before I decide to drag a healer and/or tank along to finish this underwater rubbish up.

Sark on behalf of Slaene.

1) dont float around, swim straight into him while spamming your masked attack. Once you pass its middle you re in his back and auto turn. Then, masked launch and you can follow on rest.

2) Open with bow, then use decap when up. Use the root attack and back off enough to arrow again. Ranger strat but useful with high crit bow.

I ve found a mob easy to trick in fens. The flowers stay ranger poisonning you. You arrow them to death and make a safe fight easily.

Default Re: Underwater Combat

Frontload (if you have it)
Concealment
Stealth
Highest Damage Stealth Attack
Cheap Shot (after this, walk directly into the mob)
Deadly Impale
Second Highest Stealth Attack
Point Blank Shot (if you went AGI)
Third highest Stealthed Attack
Jugular Slice
Velium Strike
Back out
Bow shots

Dead Fish.

If you break the root, hit them with Mesh (has a good range on it) and back out again with more bows shots. Don't forget Resourceful Weapon. Matter of fact, Mesh is great for pulling harder mobs instead of bow attacks. It will give you a little extra time unless you break it (unlikely) and then you just need to be ready for a stealth chain.

If you have mobs that open with nasty attacks such as Stun/Stifle. Use Jugular Slice first or drink a potion. That might be the problem with the sharks, they might be stunning or stifling you. If thats the case, open with jugular and problem solved. Another thing is you can do most stealth attacks from a flanking position so you might just be taking too long trying to position correctly. SPAM!

Also use Stupefy poison if your going to be doing Stealth Chains and Fettering if you need to stay at range. Smash and Counterattack gear is pretty useful when soloing as well.

Hope that helps.

I have a lot of trouble auto turning underwater. Keep getting the message that i must be facing my target. But when i see its happening, all I do is strafe right or left and it turns me. I don't know why underwater combat is so fucked. I guess its because no one uses it. Are any of the new raid zones completely underwater? That'd kick ass.

No raids zone are cuurently and it would suck, pathing on mobs now isn't exactly great, imagine under water..

Home and End helps for kiting under water though.

Thanks for the tips guys..

I don't normally have this much hassle. Maybe its just the extra punch the nmobs have in this expansion damage wise.

Oh and to those that asked about fully underwater dungeon zones (like Kedge Keep from EQ 1) a dev on the design team posted that most players despise underwater combat and they thought any zone like that would be underutilised so unlikely to be included in the forseeable future.

Yeah i love underwater with my mystic. Our water breathing spell makes us walk underwater.

BTW, if you made the underwater zone a good zone with lots of good loot, it would not be underutilized. People would bitch about it, but still be going everytime their lockout was up. All the bitching would make them fix underwater combat.

That spell used to be more fun when you cast in on your group, and someone jumps into the water at say Nek docks, and dies from the fall. I believe these days you sort of float to the bottom, is that correct.
