You can do RE2 with a mezzer -- I went with a PUG and tended to pull aggro after 4 secs into the fight and tanked a bunch of encouters.
That said it's not something you WANT to do really - plus I don't think we'd hold up to Slamhammer or the Epic.

Assassins are THE most limited of all dps classes. There is just no comparison. 2/3 of damage is based on timers. Many combat arts only work from ATLEAST flanking, if not directly behind. Many only work if assassin is stealthed. Very little aoe. Are primarily non-ranged fighters. If tank switches target among 5 mobs, assassin has to figure out which is new target, get TO mob, get behind mob, get stealthed...Any time we fight low hp multiple targets, monks beat me, as well as all mages. Rangers and mages dont have to do all that moving around, can assassins catch any break for having all these weaknesses? Assassins have tons of CA's too, all that means is that its harder to master and easier to screw up. It is the most challenging class to play imo. Especially when you put others mistakes into the mix. Atleast 1/2 my damage is gone in some fights because of tanks pulling mobs over pits in voes. You have to think quick and make decisions that will last into the next 3 fights because tank is chain pulling and you have timers to worry about. Maybe the group needs rescuing and you need to pull all the stops out, maybe not. Tanks will charge trash mobs, leaving very little space behind them to backstab, maybe you will get backstabbed if you go behind and turn your back on the unexplored portion of zone. That happens all the time.
The last point about assassins I want to make is that they are intented to be high dps, other classes contribute to what assassins do. Put them in right environment and they are SUPPOSED to top the parse against single targets.
Our monk parses over 2k on his autoattack in groups. Fully raid buffed w/nice setup I get like 1.2k, im sure there is something to master as a monk, but a lot is non-positional, autoattack damage. You just have to show up next to the mob. Even less for ranger, who just has to be within bow range. Mages are ranged dps too. I don't think they have ANY "must be flanking or behind" limitations.
Hands down, assassins are the most limited of all dps classes. When it comes to taking a hit, they are the worst of melee fighters. They are closer to aoe than rangers and mages, they have no time between pulling aggro and getting hit like rangers and mages. The are right in the thick of it and are the worst prepared and most likely to get unwanted aggro.
I hear they are thinking the assassin epic is too powerful. I disagree, the assassin is the most limited dps class, and are only a dps class. Who ever heard of wanting assassin tankage, heals, utility or any other support function?

and the assassin epic is retartedley op u might want to check out what the other 3 dps scouts get
you know that we also have positional attacks ? and rangers need to
to get close too for the melee stabs and some of their rnaged shots do require stelath and being behind ?

Yes, you might want to check out the Ranger one with 20% Bonus Auto-Attack damage for being 5m or closer. Seems balanced compared to the Assassin one to me!
