Default Assassin Questions

Hey there everyone. I have been playing EQ2 for a while as a Paladin and an SK. I have been playing my assassin and have gotten him up to 51, and I am really enjoy playing him. I have a couple of questions concerning how I can be more effective at the class.

1. For foods, what combinations of food would you suggest (ie str, agil ect)?

2. Since the Assassin epic is a piercing weapon, should I only use piercing weapons or a combination of piercing and slashing? Also should I use weapons with the same speed or different combinations of speed?

3. As I'm working up my toon, should I be more concerned with melee crit or double attack, or should I try to work them up equally?

4. For the most part I have been using hemotoxin poisons that deal poison damage as my poison of choice. The question is should I try different poisons or stick with what I have?

5. When using a bow, I have been using bodkin arrows, again is this the right choice or would I be better off using another type?

6. The Paralyzing Strike I know roots a target but how can I make it more effective than just using it as a way to deal damage?

7. Finally what combination of attacks do you all use to achieve the maximum amount of damage possible?

Sorry for all the questions, but when you are a tank you are used to staying in front of a target and beating the hell out of it, I am seeing that playing a scout is a lot different. I appreciate any help you can give me.

Default Re: Assassin Questions

1. STR and Stamina was typically what I used for leveling.

2. Use one of each, keep your skills maxed out imo, no reason to focus on peircing when it caps out as you level. Our epic is 4.0 so look for weapons around there. Same delay is where its at.

3. Melee crit is first priority, although I'll generally take double attack over melee crit if I can get more of it. (I'll take 3 double attack over 2 melee crit, but I wont take 2 DA over 2 melee crit.)

4. Hemotoxins are typically slower for leveling, you kill stuff to quickly to let them completely tick out. Use caustic instead

5. Arrows dont matter too much, Id go with the + distance + accuracy ones I guess.

6. If you play on a pvp server it has its uses, otherwise its just another damage attack. I suppose if you wanted to get all fancy you could root them and back up to get a couple bow auto attacks in, not sure why youd want to do this though, unless you're really close to death and so is the mob.

7. Auto attack, Mark, debuffs and dots, concealment, mash the fuck out of your stealth attacks thats generally how embarass people on the parse, at 80 you get fatal follow up, use that after you've mashed all your stealth attacks.

What Sloth said...

tho I will add the following:

3.) Get your solo buffed crit over at least 50 before you start worrying about double attack... but if you aren't raiding at least ROK t1-t2 that is going to take some work. Well-geared raiding assassins (with good groups) can get crit over 100 and DA over 80 easily.

4.) I used caustic mostly, unless I was solo and kiting a lot, in which case hemo was the way to go. lifetap poisons and vampiric adorns were also an alternative.

5.) I use field point... but meh. Doesn't really matter that much. +distance, +to hit, +damage... whatever you think you need.

6.) I used paralyzing strike a ton because I was almost entirely solo from level 45-80. I only grouped for AA from heroic zones, or to grind out heroic quests.

I used it to root the mob and step back to hit it with my bow. It kept you from taking hits, and thus made for less down time between mobs. It also helped a lot when taking on heroic mobs while solo... that plus your snare debuff and your stun/snare poisons help a lot while solo. When you are grouping, it's just another damage CA.

7.) Several threads on this board that go into depth on that subject.
