    Default How do bleeds work?

I recently betrayed to assassin and I'm trying to learn how to play. I have a question about bleeds. I see that we have five combat arts that each reduce the target's health by 2% for a total of 10%. What does this really mean?

I would expect that the target's health would then go back up to its max when all five of them wear off. So theoretically (and ignoring the actual damage ticks of the bleeds for now), if I used all five of them and nothing else on a target, the target would stay at 100% health but actually have 10% less hit points while the bleeds were in effect. For a target with 1000 health, it would then have 900 health. Then when all 5 bleeds wore off, it's max health would go back to 1000 but its current health would still be at 900 and it would show up being at 90% health.

Then, if I used all 5 bleeds again, the max health would drop back down to 900 and the target would show up at 100% health again.

Another example is if a target with 1000 max health has the bleeds active, so the current max health is 900, and the target has 36 health putting him at 4% of 900. Then my bleeds wear off and his max health goes back up to 1000. Now he's at 3.6%. According to this, I want my bleeds to wear off as he approaches 4% so that verdict can be cast sooner.

This doesn't make sense to me. What am I missing?

This is possibly the most obscure question I've ever seen on here.

    a. it doesn't matter. if you're any kind of player you're going to be way to busy raping mobs to worry about letting your dots expire at a certain time.

    b. Just put them on the mob; it dies faster.

Okay, here's a more important question.

Why use bleeds more than once per fight? If it only affects a target's max health, then once the target's health is below 90%, it doesn't actually do anything. Does keeping the bleeds active really make it die faster (other than actual DoT damage included with them)?

I should be using the term max health debuffs instead of bleeds. Mbad.

Awesome answer, so I will answer your question. You are completely wrong about how max health debuffs work, but don't feel bad. The top guild in the game thought this was how they worked for quite a while too. The health does not stay off when the debuff wears off, when it wears off, his health % stays the same. if you could theoretically cast all the bleeds without doing any other damage, the mobs health would stay 100% the entire time. If you cast it at 50% health, he will still have 50% health. Then if you beat him down to 40% while the buff is active, when the buff wears off, he will have more HitPoints, but still have 40% health.

The best way to think about a max health debuff is that it increases the raids damage by that % while its active, but it does not show up on the parse. Or, if you can keep them all active for the entire fight, it would decrease the length of the fight by 10%.

Also, it's impossible to keep them all active the entire fight. Death mark uses all of its triggers in less than a second in a raid.
It's only weird if it doesn't work.

    +1 to Hoss.

It reduces the Max hp pool of the mob. Regardless of what the mob is at % wise, if the max hp pool is descreased, the % stays the same.

Theoretical numbers used just for explanation, and explaining it as if no damage is being done while the hp debuffs are applied:

If the mob has 100 hitpoints, and the mob is at 50%, it means the mob is at 50 hitpoints. When you reduce it by 10% with max hp debuffs it means the mobs total HP pool was decreased to 90 hit points. This now means that the mob is at 45 hitpoints instead of 50, which means it is still at 50% of its max health. When it wears off, it goes back up to the 100 max hp pool it had, and to the 50 hitpoints, which still = 50%

    Nam' sayin?

Also fuck you because I play a ranger.

Basically what I got from this thread is that Clownshoe can't tank Old ST, and the OP failed.
