Guild
GUILD–noun
1.
an organization of persons with related interests, goals, etc., esp. one formed for mutual aid or protection.
2.
any of various medieval associations, as of merchants or artisans, organized to maintain standards and to protect the interests of its members, and that sometimes constituted a local governing body.
Related interests, goals, etc. – kill mobs, gain loot, progress to end game.
Mutual aid – work together to figure out how to kill (insert mob name) or obtain (insert loot)
Maintain standards and to protect the interests of its members – guild reputation, helping others to obtain their goals.
Ok where the hell is she going with all this? Good question. I don’t understand the reasoning behind people who quit one guild to join another and give the reason as “I want to kill (insert mob). Or I want to get my (insert loot).
I totally understand changing guilds due to real life schedules, obligations, or loosing interest in the game and quitting altogether. But I can not understand leaving a guild just because they are not “progressing” fast enough or they are having a problem with a certain mob or zone. This is what I see. Join a better guild that has already killed (insert mob) and you zone in, told to stand here and do this, five minutes later the mob is dead, the loot is dkped off and everyone gates. Yay, you have progressed.
OR….
You can stay in your guild, research the mob, and talk to the other raid members to see if a respect of AAs will help. Try different pull spots. Try different strats, Try different raid positions, fail, fail, try again. Find out what other guilds do, try that, decide what works best for your raid force. (Just because it works for one guild does not mean it will work for yours.) Suffer through bad pulls, try different things, work at your job in the raid, suffer through bad luck, and hope for good. Then finally the mob dies, vent erupts in cheers, everyone is pumped. The loot is dpked but that is secondary to the feeling of accomplishment and solidarity. Next time the mob is easier and soon you are killing it with ease. Yay, you have progressed, but you were there when it was first killed by the guild you helped build.
Personally I prefer the latter. Ok, I may be an emo, naive, or just plain stupid but this is why I am in a raiding guild. Are there others out there that think this way?

Re: Guild
I agree with your point mostly. But sometimes maybe a guild just can’t progress, and its time for that player to find a new home.
Also sometimes friendships are more important then killing mob X, Y, and Z. /shrug.

Re: Guild
Can't really hold anything against them if they are looking to better themselves, usually the case is that the guild they are currently in just isn't progressing. Sure you can clear FTH and Clockwork or Cheldrak...KoS zones...but what of MMIS or Emerald Halls.
Perhaps they wish to see what is on the other side...Not always greener...but you never know until you get there.

Re: Guild
Sometimes guilds change and they aren't what you originally joined. There is always some degree of turnover in a guild and this may lead to what basically amounts to a brand new guild in a short amount of time if your turnover is fairly high. Recently there have been alot of defections to either VG or even WoW because people have become bored/burned out with EQ2.
The new people may not fit your play style for any number of reasons. Maybe you feel they aren't up to the same standards as you, maybe you feel they are loot whores. Maybe you just don't like listening to them on whatever voice chat you use. Maybe you saw a picture of them and you think the ass end of your dog has a better shot at picking up a date.
And sometimes there are just so many differences in the way a person thinks a guild should be run vs. how it actually is being run that they figure it is easier to just move on. After all, if you have 20 or more things that you have problems with and keep bringing them to the officers/leaders attention after awhile they're going feel that you're a complainer. Why put yourself and them through all that?
Sometimes the best thing is to just part ways on a good note, continue to show each other mutual respect and have fun playing a game.

Re: Guild
also sometimes once you are part of a guild for a long time... esspecially if you are a leader or officer the game starts to lose its fun and starts to turn into a chore. That happened to me in my old guild I'm glad I am where I am now, playing with new friends and enjoying the game.

Sharrah- Your Quote "You can stay in your guild, research the mob, and talk to the other raid members to see if a respect of AAs will help. Try different pull spots. How long do you wait before you call it bad raid leadership? 3 Monthes? 6 Monthes? How many TERRIBLE strats did we try OVER AND OVER in the old days in Defiant. How much input was asked on those strats from members?
A guild like any other organization requires good chemistry to make it work, why stay somewhere where you arent having fun playing the game anymore? We all ultimately play this game to have fun... and if we arent then why bother.
Sidetracked, anyways as guilds attain people chemistry changes, rules change, people have RL issues and their attitudes change, playstyles conflict, etc etc.
The Usual consistant thing in Guilds is Management and the way they run thier guild. Lets look at it all like a Sports Franchise.
Team=Raiding Guild
Owner=Leader
Coach/Manager=Raid Leader
Players=Members
Reasons For staying on a Team.
Loyalty to the Team and team-mates
Consistant winning(taking down instances)
Good paycheck(loots)
Beating other teams(Contested or Server Firsts)
Reasons for Leaving(Like any Free Agent)
Team just isnt competetive enough IE other teams are better.
Bigger paycheck somewhere else
Constantly losing(Everyone wants that Super Bowl Ring)
If you are really friends with someone you will keep in touch with them regardless of what team you are on.
Too many Players at their position! Big one forgot about it(edit)
Everybody wants different things because everyone is different.... Just because a member see's what they consider a problem and nothing happens with it, doesnt always mean the members problem hasnt been listened to or discussed. Just because a member thinks things should be run a different way than they are in a guild doesnt mean it is going to happen. And I think some things officers discuss shouldnt be brought to member attention because they would cause to much drama,while others probably should. Shrug. Gotta do what is going to make you ultimately happy I guess is what it all boils down to, and one person's idea of happy isnt always the same as someone elses... when that someone else is the Leader.. it usually doesnt work out. So then the Player moves on, the old team moves on, the server moves on, RL moves on, the world moves on....
Man I guess you really dont even have to be happy somewhere as long as you are content with it......
