Virtue's Guard: 1477 protection

Still better shields out there defensively, but Harbinger is now worth using in a hybrid offense/defense role (as good as it gets to pure offense without dual wielding). And considering Virtue's Guard comes from PR, i'm not all that surprised the protection is worse than some instance shields.

Same appearances, same stats other then they boosted the sheild protection ratings. Virtue is still junk, Harbinger is worth trying again for the reasons Xalmat stated.

the VG is perfectly fine for where it is. the majority of gear from PR is only "ok" and the VG is no exception, if I was 78, and just starting to raid zones, this would be a nice bump for me.
its just where it should be. good enough, but not the best.
great gear shouldnt come outta easy zones that can basically be 1 grouped now.

Well, the HoMC is one of the better shield I've seen so far. My defensive shield is the Magmatic blocker, and compared to that I only lose 500 avoidance. So thats my new top shield :D

For a quick reference i ran a set of tests on the training dummy with different weapon configurations, 20 pulls for every weapon set casting temp buffs always on the same pulls, at 68% DA (as i was solo):

Top: Mythical + Claw of Khalen
Then:
Mythical + Nox Noctis (-105ExtDPS)
Mythical + Hammer of Swirling Constellations (-201ExtDPS)
Mythical + Dissector (-280ExtDPS)
Mythical + Harbinger of Malcontent (-700ExtDPS)
Mythical + Empowered Talon of Myliex (tells you how bad is to DW mismatching delay weapons, -851ExtDPS)

In a group situation or even worse raid situation when DA is capped or overcapped DW will get a wider bonus over 1h+shield, just in case someone wanted to try that shield for DPS purposes. And also for tanking it's possibly good but i'd still use Savage Wall over it and anyone who can get HoM can also get Savage Wall, the avoidance difference is pretty huge (850-900 depending on gear) and the dps bonus of wearing HoM would probably be just of 300-500 DPS (if not less).

So yes, nice change for sure since bucklers where pretty useless and possibly a 1st choice if you can't get a decent offhand (Kelkrin's Axe or one of the VP/SoH ones) but otherwise stick to DW for DPSing and tanking trash and to 1h+tower for tanking what you can't tank in DW

I will use the HoMC when tanking multiple mobs that don't hit hard I tink, because we all know that our dps is bigger when using a shield on 3-4 mobs at the same time, and this shield boost a litle bit our proc on our offstance.

the only reason virtue's guard was changed was because we used it for so long, it was a waste of time coding in a change for it now.
