I recently just started up a new toon, an ogre Berserker, i'm going to betray him to the qeynosian side because that is where the rest of my toons are based.

But my main question is, is this the class for me?

I Would love to play either a Guardian or a Berserker, so no other class is an option.

I've thought of various scenarios in which the counter class would be better.

For instance i see a guardian tanking better than a berserker in certain spots, concidering the gear, aa & skill was the same, the guardian would more or less still prevail in terms of holding agro and taking minimal damage.

Where-as in group scenarios if a tank is already around, the berserker would be more valuable in terms of extra DPS or possibly a Back up tank for a few brief seconds.

I'll be solo'ing the majority of the time, up untill T8 where i'll probably start picking up groups and possibly raiding, although the raiding will not be hardcore, and it'll probably be twice, if not once a month.


I have my AA build down, which i feel would be suitable for both classes

Sta - 4,4,8
Str - 4,4,8,6,1
Int - 4,4,8,6,1

That is all i have currently,
i'm not sure what AA line i should go down first, nor have i done any research into the EOF tree's merely because i don't know what class i'm going to be yet.

What i mainly want is the class that can solo well on it's own and can take several mobs at once, for this i saw the zerker to be an option.

But of course i want to be able to tank well aswell, how would i compare to the guardian if i chose the berserker? How would my DPS be if i chose the guardian?

I honestly have no clue myself, i've done a large amount of research into both classes but am still stuck at a stand still.

I play a Berserker and we tank just fine in 6 person instances. If a guardian and a Berserker were both geared the same, then a Berserker will DPS more. Also - Berserker are more AOE tanks.

Short answer- if you're not looking to raid, then a Berserker will be a fine choice to play. If you plan to raid- then you'll probably be looking for an off-tank role.

The obvious holds true- (yes, skill is involved-but) gear is everything. only advice is work on 2 sets of gear- one for tanking, one for dpsing- but first focus on tanking gear first and hybrid it later on once you can build up your tanking gear - look for + HP, +Sta, + Parry + defense.

The good part is at 80, once you get your T2 armor- you'll be up to par with most instance tankage (just make sure your jewerly is more defensive minded)

Awesome! That's the exact sort of reply i was hoping for, you gave me the advice i wanted to know and in a short and understandable way, thank-you very much, i greatly appreciate it, as i won't be raiding as much, and when i do - i don't really want to hold such a large role, so it looks like the berserker is indeed a class for me,

The advice you gave on gear at T8 was a complete god-send, i wasn't thinking of doing that at all, i was under the impression that i had to go with either DPS or tanking, and it would be impossible to be decent at both in one set of gear, i'll be looking out for that! i'll probably start working on shards at level 75 and just work on them, hitting 80 off just shard quests, i already have 22 shards in the shared bank slot, so i'm not far off getting my T1 shard armor, the shard jewelery i need to look at though, not sure what's what in that :-)

But apart from that, thanks a ton!

I've tried many of the classes in this game and the Berserker is by far the most fun. (imo of course)

As for the gear thing. The difference between my tank gear and dps gear is like 2 pieces of armor and a couple jewelry swaps. Its more that i just dont use a shield when dpsing, wheras that usually ends up bein kinda important for tanking

Also last bits of advice:
1. for low level's just duel wield- until you see you're dying too fast to mobs- then switch to shield- for instances, you'll probably have to shield most of the time.
2. As for tank/dps gear- i have a macro set up - equiping either set of gear- when i raid and dps, i got full dps gear on, etc...
3. set up a macro to switch btwn shield / offhand weapon

The 2 set of gear for a zerker is a total must i ues 2 macros and just about change out all my armor one macro for dps one for tanking build your zerker in the same way you would a guard for tanking for dps zerker are all most the same as a swashy thing i like about dps on the zerker is that you can use chain /leather just about any thing with you can get your hands on and there none off the back hitting crap you get on a scout. items you are looking for when dpsing dont need to have any tanking at all on them so just get your crit // da // haste // combat arts damage //str //aoe as high as you can not saying zerker will ever be the best dpser in game but for a toon that can go from beening a tank to a dpser there one off the best iv tanked all off the inst zones up to pof which iv never tryed and the zerker myth is a total must have item its one off the good dpsing myth give 100%aoe hard to be a zerker with out it

I actually find the berserker has an edge on Guardians with Adrenaline. When you start moving into diminishing returns with your defensive skills, there isn't really a big difference at all in survivability.

If you took Reinforcement away from the Guard, the Berserker would really be the MT of choice imho.

ill dissagree... a talented/geared gaurd still outsines all other classes for mt spot. The have tons of stoneskins and hp. Adrenaline is great dont get me wrong... but in my opinion a gaurd who knows what they are doing can take hits buch better.

I'm the MT of my guild, raiding TSO. MTing as a zerk is fine, you only need the good stuff to do that, the skill, the AA build (not so far from the DPS build though).

I guess guardians can have a little, little more survability on very hard single target nameds. But with all our def stuff, 2 temporary skills where you are under half of the time, AA skills (the 100% parry from EoF tree, some AA in tso, Adrenaline, etc....) MTing is quite easy with more than 80% avoidance, 60-70% mitig (and 100%+ in crit & DA for aggro purposes)

In balance, a zerk as MT is the fun to be in the 3 or 4 first DPS zone wide ( usually as high as 7K+ zonewide ), some single target parses could be as high as 10K+ (much more for multi..)...so you can guess keeping aggro is not a prob

So now, make the good choice...

given the overpowered gear (not even for tanks themselves but whole raid/MT Group) in TSO (From avatars and instance bosses) any tank, can MT anything just flawlessly. And as long as that happens which class is better than another at tanking is a very moot point. DPS is another matter. Instance tanking too, but even there if u have raid gear anyone can tank it, otherwise i wouldn't know who's best at what
