Default Speccing 2.0

Ok so I hear the biggest rave right now for Zerkers/Guardians on the Warrior tree is to go down the Stamina/Strength line.

Obviously Stamina for the extra HP and dps/buckler line and the Strength line for the extra hate.

I switched to this set up for about a week and found it to blow extreme ass.

In defensive stance I was sitting around 4500 MIT and I have 5-7 Fabled EoF pieces, and good +mit jewelry.

I just really didn't see a huge gain in going down the strength line. I was a lot softer due to losing all the Mit and wasn't cranking out DPS like I was before. Yeah....increase to melee crit chance is nice..but as a Zerker, I found it less damage then using the Wis line for increasing DPS.

So....in short...I have specc'd back to Stamina/Wisdom line and selected the final ability of losing penalties for the offensive and defensive stances. I now parse around 1600-2400 and am in Offensive stance with around 5200 Mit.

Feel free to add your comments here on the plus's and minus's of choosing the Wis line over the Str line.

I would love to hear your comments.

Slainte,

Khorne

Well first going from 4500 to 5200 you gain about 3% more mit. So you have to ask yourself is that worth it over 22% crit and the hate gain.

As far as the dps goes if u run a dirge thats 31 dps there. Your Zerk is naother 29 dps. Plus you can get 2 dps adornments which gives you 20 extra.

So 31+29+20 = 80 dps fromt here on you start hitting diminishing returns curve so any extra dps u get wont make or break you. But you can also wear an acrylia ring and get another 28 dps mod.

Plus we gotta take into account that mitigation sucks ass. But if you still insist on having high mit we have Mayhem and Wall of Ferocity which u can switch off from and keep ur mit up pretty much permanetly. I dont see how the wis line can be better than the str line.

/agree i think our wisdom line is the only usless line we have, all the rest are decent. I also couldnt imagine you would notice the difference in 1-2% mit. Would be like getting hit for 10k unmitigated @4500 mit=4100 damage vs 4800 mit=4000 damage.... doesnt seem phenominal to me for 20 AA

Most excellent points. I do however seem to struggle holding aggro when I am down the Str line.

I switched back to the Wis line and now I don't have a problem again.

I just don't get it.

All my taunts are Master I/II.

I guess I am just a better DPS tank then I am a Taunt tank.

well crits affect ALL your damage and the hate affects ALL your dps/taunt/etc. Whereas DPS only affects auto attack... dont see how you would have more problems. Arent you at the cap for +skills when raid buffed anyways? What is the point of the end wisdom skill

It's not easy to cap skills when in defensive stance. Even in offensive stance and a dirge I think I'm around 430ish.
What I think people are failing to realize, is that the diminighing returns we see on our persona page, is one for a solo level 70 mob. So while adding a few hundred mitigation we are only seeing a couple percent, it will be a bit more than this when fighting a level 75, and epic mob. Same thing with skills. If you are fighting a level 70 solo mob and have 400 skills, then up your skills to 455, you may not see much of an increase in hit %. Now fight a 75 epic, and I garauntee you will see a large difference in hit % when going from 400 to 455. Even the 18 or so we can get in wisdom line will make a difference when fighting the higher level epics, assuming we aren't already at cap of course.
I'm actually considering going back to wisdom line myself. I'm using stamina line for dps and hate. I'm thinking that being able to hit these higher level epic mobs more often with a little more skills and the survivability by adding more mitigation may outweigh crits. For example, raising the hit ratio by 5% may end up being more dps (therefore better aggro) than 10% chance to crit.
And yea, as zerkers we can get into diminishing returns of haste and dps, but same thing with defense (agility line) and parry (int). It's usually very good for the tank to be hit. That procs alot of things and helps to hold aggro, assuming the hits don't kill them of course, lol. Sometimes lots of haste just gets you reposted more (if MT), which I don't think can be avoided.

look if your so worried about not hitting the mobs but you want the mitigation just use lower lvl defense stance's, you get the same amount of mit (15%) you lose some avoidance but you also dont get hit as hard on your skills, i went down the sta/wis for about a week just to see, and i lost probably 500 dps, yes i was OT alot, but even when i was MT it sucked, if you cant keep agro sta/str something is wrong you need to learn to play better, time your melee with your ca's, i rarely use the single target taunt when tanking bc its a waste of time, its not even as much as my auto attack in a raid my auto attack can be from 2k to almost 4 at times.

example, using current tier defense stance i have about 345 skill and 44% avoid, using the lowest lvl stance i have 360 and 37% avoid, this is just by myself standing on the docks, also im not a tank with all the parry/block adorns. the lose of crits made me hate myself for respecing i was being outparsed by class's i shouldnt lol, i switched back asap

Shouldn't have to spec completely offensive to dps or hold aggro.

also, it should be extremely easy for a MT to hit the cap in defensive... here is me in def with 3 buffs that would be on while im in def.

can see that even my worst skill would be above the cap and TBH the wisdom line would only be even a slight bit usefult for a MT. Any OT should be focusing on pumping out DPS.
