Default Engaging early

How early do you guys/gals engage?

I sometimes grab aggro if I use my throwing weapon and crit a double attack.

I think I'm lacking knowledge on how to do this properly without dying a lot (and not reducing my zonewide).

WTB Other Pro Tips!

As soon as it's in range for a Rob. I'm sure it lowers my ZW a little, but my raid leader really gets on my case if I pull aggro early...so I just pre-stealth and wait until it's in melee range to start.

usually hit ranged as its on the way in, single target snare as im running into range, then hit comp thrust and rukus as im getting placed, then unload the works on the mob.

contested where it really matters about swipe, ill usually try land it on its way to the MT, but dance back out of range as it casts so i dont pull aggro and wipe the raid.

Unless there is a need to get a swipe on ASAP, I wait for the mob to be in position. It really is a pain in the balls when all the DPS jumps early. If that happens there can be a period of ping ponging that just fucks my DPS up as the assassins are getting killed.

Raid discipline > a few extra dps ZW. ;)

If I am only brig.... rob, comp thrust, spew (jcap), dispatched, etc, etc...

I like to hold back a bit until the mob is positioned as well. I know this costs me on the parser but I don't really care. If I jump in right away and dispatch the mob while every other parse junky is trying to light it up it only makes the ping pong worse. So mostly I hang until the mob is in position and then start in. My point of view is that winning the encounter is most important and most of the time going balls out dps on the pull is counter productive.

I love the joke in the movie Colors, 2 bulls on a hill overlooking a field of cows and the younger bull says "hey pop, lets run down there and fuck one of those cows!" the elder bull says "no son, let's walk down, and fuck 'em all"

i dunno, i have always seen it as its your job to get them debuffs of yours on the mob ASAP ...our tank has little to no issue with me or our other brigand doing what we do, and well the real dps class's are happy bunnys with such rapid debuffing.
Edited to add : So is the MT, once we got our def/parry/deflection. debuffs on...the quicker they go on, the better the Tank can build solid aggro.

It honestly depends on your tank, and the type of encounter, if he feels comfortable with you engaging before the mob is in position then go for it, otherwise I just wait till he positions it, which really isn't ( or shouldn't be ) too long.

To each his own though, I don't think it makes that big a difference imo.

Double throw when mob is far, then Holdup, then Dispatched and so on until double up. 2nd brig uses something like Remiss, Compromising Thrust, Roughen the same time. Never use rob in beginning... it's waste of a lot of DPS imho.

Our brig likes to start about 0000.1 secs after me, its a pain at first but once you get used to its fine. the only time i might have an issue is if i get a couple of auto attack misses in a row, but thats rare even in vp. If your having issues ask your guard to start with obliterate on pulls that will sort it out.

although on long pulls(due to possible adds, droags in vp etc) its probably best to wait till the mob is positioned, then its just a case of making your tank turn faster =)
