Default staying alive?

Just curious how other brigs manage to stay alive during some of the new TSO raid mobs

I'm starting to notice that AR doesn't seem to hack it on some of the tougher mobs, I'm either tremendously unlucky and it's not procing, or it doesn't block some of the harder aoes for whatever reason

issue is that i die more than i stay alive and as far as I can tell I have relatively descent gear--mostly TSO stuff, t2 and a peice of my fabled shard set from tombs

i've been staying in defensive on raids just for the extra little bit of survivability and I'm starting to look into more defensive adorns--like the parry on my forearms and stuff like that -- I've even thought of searching out a descent round shield to use from time to time when I seem to be dying too much

am I squishy or do other brigs have this problem too? are their any techniques I dont know about?

If you cant live through an AE.
Joust.
AR is becomnig worthless because damage shields remove the effect, and most mobs seem to have damage shields now adays.

You're actually raiding in defensive?!
Wow, just wow.

Here is the list
  1. Learn to Joust
  2. Up your hit points (should be around 13k SOLO)
  3. Up your resists (should be around 12k in raid for the resist required) AND THE GEAR MUST BE LEVEL 80 GEAR or the resists are not worth it.
  4. Up your crit mit (should be around 4 pieces for most mobs)
  5. Get better healers
    1. Note, healers can not make up for your stupidity
  6. Get better groups
Your list of things to do during a raid.
  1. Debuff
  2. DPS
  3. Survive
  4. Help others survive
List of things you have to change right fucking now.
  1. Your not a tank, + parry adorn's will not help you.
  2. If you ever raid defensively (on purpose) in a raid that I'm leading, I'd kick you from the guild. (and I'm not joking)
  3. Remember that you have to do ALL 4 things at the same time (see list above)
I hope this has helped you learn a bit.

and don't be a douche, and stop raiding in defensive.

i guess i've been reading around here long enough to know that if you ask anything you get a dick in your ass, it's just the rules

anyways, thanks for the useful information, i haven't been raiding that long so tbh i really dont know much about it other than what I've read and figured out on my own

i didn't realize defensive was that taboo--i've never even thought about using it before until i was getting whacked all over the place on a raid yesterday. i spent more time at the repair bot than behind the mob. so i figured defensive would add a little bit of survivabilty --

a bit less dps seemed to make more sense than no dps cause im dead or rebuffing constantly

now i know

so i'll just keep gearing up and joust out -- most of the other raids i've been on i can eat the aoe's with my resist gear or by ar procing

and im just under 10k so i'll work on my hps

thanks

Defensive won't help with aoes. Neither will parry. Roundshield? You should be beaten over the head with a roundshield just for mentioning it!
The only use I have found for defensive stance is when you want to run from one end of a zone to the other without stopping to fight.

Johnathon laid it out pretty well.

Being a parsejunky myself I know it sucks but sometimes you just have to swap out your favorite dps gear for something with the proper resists. Just remember being dead hurts your parse more.

One thing i forgot..

Get act, learn how to setup ae timers PROPERLY and joust when the timer says 5.

you will net the knowlege of what AE's a mob has and on what frequency.

And you will get more time in under the mob.

someone had suggested getting a round shield and setting up a macro to swap it in on the aoe's

and then swap it back out right after

i dunno i haven't tried it yet i guess i shouldn't bother?

To be honest, defensive will only help with trauma AE's

The first mob in Guk's (I forget the ae name) and Void Slide are the only 2 that it may help with.

Void slide is avoidable by AR and i usually stay in on that mob FULLTIME and ae avoid all of the ae's.

And i use appeal for mercy on a mage for the trauma ae on the mob in GUK (kulthak?) and survive just fine. (AKA take 2 hits of hte ae without dying)

And if you are so inclined to go defensive, only do it 3 seconds before the ae hits and switch back the moment after.

Whoever suggested that to you, go ahead and put his name here in the forum so we can all laugh at him.

Please don't neuter yourself to make up for other people's shortcomings.... brigs are not about being bitches. Tell whoever suggested you tuck it with a roundshield to fuck off.

If you're taking dmg that most people in your raid aren't taking you simply need to joust. (as noted above)
