Combat basics
Hi all,
New Brig here, just returned to EQ2 after a 3 year break. I've played MMO's for years (EQ, SWG, EQ2, VG, EQ and now EQ2 again), so pretty familiar. I'm one of those guys who enjoys maximizing my personal / group / raid potential - it's just something I enjoy. To help me with this, I'm looking for some detailed info on how the combat mechanics in EQ2 work now. I know each game has things that are unique to that specific game. For example, EQ1 there were three kinds of haste (equipment, spell and bard overhaste). If one didn’t know that, it wouldn’t be readily apparent.
Specifically (and feel free to augment any info I may have overlooked):
1) What determines dps? (weapon damage range / delay + str, or whatever)
2) What determines weapon speed? (is it just the displayed number? )
3) What modifies dps and weapon speed? (buffs, aa’s, personal haste, etc)
4) How does weapon speed and displayed damage affect one’s dps? (i.e. should I go for slow, big hitting weapons, or the opposite)
5) How do skills affect damage? (if I’m not maxed on piercing and using a pierce weapon, will my hit chance go down?)
6) How do stats affect a Brig? (str adds directly to damage or does it increase your chance to hit, but not the size of the hit, etc.)
7) Are there hard and soft stat caps? What are they?
8) Are returns on stats linear, or curved? (i.e. I get 1 hp per stamina from 1-100, then 2 per from 101-200, etc.)
Mmm, I know I’m forgetting a lot of questions. But, I’m anxious to get back into EQ2 and having a blast so far.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer the questions and feel free to add anything I may have missed. Any links to other threads would be appreciated too - i don't mind doing the reading myself if it's been stated before.
