For me, timing my auto attack has netted a decent amount of dps. I used to be from the school of spam to my hearts content and sit there and do nothing for 10 - 15 seconds.

If most of your combat arts have the same casting time and recovery time *(before modifiers)

Autoattack timer - EQ2Interface

Install this mod into your UI. Cast the number of combat arts it tells you to and pause a moment for an auto attack. Once it is updated from the developer (I'm waiting on this myself) to update per combat art cast, it will be worth even more.

The other way, is to turn off combat spam for everyone in raid except your spells and heals, then watch for a bunch of numbers to appear all at once (auto attack usually procs a bunch of procs and causes a cluster of numbers to appear above the mobs head) and then spam 2 - 3 combat arts and then wait for the next spam.

In all honesty, using both methods would be the best to maximize your auto attack potential. (The plug in doesn't update fast enough and I've been relying on watching the numbers above the mobs head).

One other method you can do is to set act to beep on every auto attack. i find this annoying as hell after the first raid... So it has limited uses.

Using a mod time time auto attacks is fucking gay IMHO, if you are to stupid to see when your attack hits... roll an Illy so you can do nothing but click a hundred buttons a second and look uber.

As for a neat trick... if you have 3 pieces of your T1 set create a macro to equip that, cast RC then equip whatever three pieces you had in those slots prior, only works if you pre-cast before battle of course but it's a min off RC none the less.

You don't need to look for a bunch of numbers. Just look for the numbers that aren't hilited. Those are your auto attacks.

Hey, just so you know, in all actuality the numbers that pop up above the head of a mob delay even with minimal lag. Many mobs you cant see the numbers above the mob because they are to large. If you are spending your time watching above the mobs head you are unaware of other things goin on around you. Before you speak next time, learn to not be a noob.

Btw have you tried using a timer? I bet your parse would go up unless you were to dumb to understand the timing.

EDIT
BTW Johnathon is also correct about the dps that comes from a brigands auto attack. If you are missing auto attacks your killing your dps.

My offensive, and defensive stances have been macroed to equip either my offhand (offensive) or my shield (defensive) depending on this situation.

This has saved me quite a few times when ive had to OT an add for a bit whilst the OT is disarmed, stifled whatever, and just in general i find it useful.

hmm i cant wait to try this

another little tip that helps your DPS a ton when waiting on yoru CA's to come back up..

When your ca's are all on the cooldown, backout and use your double throw CA, and let your auto attack hit, then run back in asap and get your melee auto on. it will hit soon as you get in range. your getting two autos in and an extra CA all for the price of one. its a real nice spike of DPS

Not exactly. If you back out while waiting for your melee Auto timer, use double throw, then RANGED auto... ranged auto just took the place of a melee swing that would have hit for WAY more at the same time. If you prefer to use double throw, back out just far enough to use it and IMMEDIATELY turn your melee auto back on DURING the cast timer for double throw. Melee and ranged auto timers use the same timer to calculate the delay of the next hit.

The way you described it, you will lose DPS.
