Re: + Skill Level
Like I said, this was just a THEORY. I wasnt claiming the research is done, that is why I said it was my theory, therefore not based on research. Thou I did cite some quatitative data in the post that I found interesting. Unfortunately, I was tired, had closed the parse already and tried to go to bed, that failing i got back up around 2am and was surfing eq2flames when i found this interesting post and decided to reply. Additonally, this wasnt a planned post, or else I would have collected the data then posted, but instead it was one of those impulse posts where I was intrigued by someone asking a question that I had long been pondering myself.
To directly answer some of your questions
how does jumping from 429 - 480 hint or prove that there is no skill cap?
Prove may be too strong of a word, what I should have stated is "indicate" and here is why.........som Ancillary data that I left out was my swashy brother, had a piercing of 450 and only 83% to hit rate......see below
how many fights did you parse at 480?
Seeing that we were clearing Emeralds Halls, quite a few.
did you drop some gear to get it around "the cap" and then see if it changed your hit rate?
No I didnt think about it till after the raid was done, as I was too caught up in the moment of trying to make sure I owned the parse.
and finally, did you do any parses without the +5, and then again after with just adding the +5?
As I stated in my original post, at the end in the disclaimer, No i didnt. But I sure did think about it later, which was the reason for my disclaimer. If I had all the data, I would have posted this as fact or not at all, but i dont, so its my theory. And my theory generally deals more with which is more beneficial, a proc adorn or a +skill adorn. Since skill caps in pact this, that needs to be one fo the controlled variables.
then, were you fighting the same mobs the whole time?
This is during a raid bro, I dont parse group or solo fights, data from those types of encounters are trivial at best. So no all the mobs are not the same, but each floor in Emerald Halls has very little variation, floor one being kiling alot of damd fairies and trees for the most part. Tons of brownies on the second floor....etc
i also think you need to go do some more testing.
Agree, thats why i said it was a theory. Based on facts I have observed and assumptions that i have had to make in the abscense of other facts. But since i consider this an interesting topic that I was suprised to see on the boards, i thought I would post my theory so we all could debate and research it. With that said, I will be continuing my data collection with tonites raid.
In the abscense of some factual data, i had to make some assumptions, because I had not considered some factors previously, such as what my piercing skill was at in my normal group. As I had thought it was at cap so never considered it important.
Last nite I assumed that it is normally at 429, which know that I reflect on that, that is probably wrong because when I checked my piercing skill, it was during the Tender fight in EH, so I had unequipped alot of my EOF gear for gear that had more magic resist in a hopes of resisting the AE stuns of the adds. That probably lowered my piercing skill to 429 and therefore is not indicative of what it is normally at when I parse a to hit ratio of 80%.
The primary fact that I concluded from last nite was that my piercing was 480 and on the zonewide parse, I had a 87% to hit rate for melee which was signficantly higher than ALL other scouts in the raid, except one ranger. In addition to that, my melee DPS was significanly higher too.
Obviously, alot more research needs to be conducted.
Some interesting questions left unanswered are.
1) By how much does every +1 or +5 skill lvl, increase your to hit rate?
2) How many more auto attacks does a 1% increase to the TO HIT % equate to?
ie does 1% increase in TO HIT % = 10 auto attacks on average?
3)And how much damage would that be? If my average melee hit is for 1k damage, that would be 10k damage for just a 1% increase in to hit. Now obviously these are fictional numbers, but this is the level of fidelity that I wish to acquire.
