Default Diminished Returns.

Alright so I've been looking through bruiser forums and havn't really found anything concerning diminished returns. I'm sitting around 4k dps with a dirge, illy, ranger, mystic, brig, and myself while the raid is doing 55k. i've got 47 melee crit/18DA (without procs) solo. Is there a certain CA mod or melee crit/DA i should be shooting for?

My opinion here:

I'd shoot for 200 CA mod. Some folks will say to get more but if your concerned with diminishing returns, then this is a descent number to aim for and here's why.

CA's have a cap of static bonusses. That cap is 50% more than normal, but the problem is that this cap applies to the LOWEST end of the CA range. So therefore, if you have a CA that deals 300-900 damage, the CA damage cap for that CA is actually 150.
We have 2 CA's that are similar to this range. Front Kick and Hammer, 2 of our higher parsing CA's due to fast recast. These 2 CA's get virtually no benefit from having alot of CA damage mod, considering our Raid Buff is giving 112 already. Now the actual damage range of these CA's will fluctuate depending on your strength, but the low end on many of our CA's is so low that it prevents us from taking full advantage of CA modification. I can drop 100 CA mod and see absolutely no difference in 100 hands, Front Kick, and Hammer.... and to me, thats a waste.

Sure, having +500 CA mod will improve the higher damaging CA's like Gut Punch, but those have a significantly longer recast time and don't reflect as well on yoru zonewide parse.

In closing I'd suggest aiming for around 200. More than that does still have some benefit, but I wouldn't choose another 75 CA damage over say.... +5 DPS mod.

What about melee crit? if theres a diminished return for that i was considering taking off the silten sand headgear for the reet knight collection helm. im sitting well over 200 melee mod with 330 so that would knock me down to 285 melee mod with 45 crit but id gain the 200 proc damage. would that be worth it? im doubtful.

That's half-true. The CA Cap is actually a range from 150 to 450 for that CA. Meaning, you get a new spread of 450-1350 if you have 450 CA Damage.

I'll have to go back and examine my stuff again because I have multiple arts with very close to that exact damage spread, and I have only 365 CA mod, and adding anything else gives zero improvement to the CA's with that range.
