In fencing, the riposte (French for retort) is an offensive action with the intent of hitting one's opponent, made by the fencer who has just parried an attack.

In game mechanics 20% of parries are riposte, including but not limited to items or adornments or AA's that directly add riposte, which is still technically a parry with a base damage auto attack.

On the original specific topic yes it was semantics.
But on the previous 2 arguments he was completely wrong.
