How many failures will it take for SoE to get a clue? Stay tuned.

I wouldn't be surprised by this at all. And if this does come to fruition it would mean its the end of EQ1 and EQ2.

EQ1 is leading up to the events that will terminate with the shattering capping it off to where EQ2 Started. EQ2 could be ending with the Sundering and the Lore to support it. Not to mention all the lore is written. This would allow SoE to bring some finality in a sensible way to long running games, reclaim resources and have a huge player base to pull from for a new large MMO and recapture past audiences that left for other games because they will indeed return and give it a try.

The introduction of EQ3 can be built on a modern platform for current multi-core and graphical technologies (from a technical standpoint to revamp the current games would be a waste of resources, so why not wrap of the story lines and fast forward to events after the sundering with a new game and a current engine, have healthy populations to support it and not your fan base split between games.

Some people may quit but overall I think they'd increase their subscriptions. So I don't think it'd be all that far fetched at all.
