Default Stay on one target, dammit!

Why is it that when I get in a group with more than one fighter that at least one of them somehow manages to get it into their head that they must suddenly switch targets every time we get an add? I'm not here just to feed mana and look good in my pajamas. I need to stop being so nice and make a macro that says something like:

/g >><< I CAN'T FUCKING MEZ THE ADDS WHEN SOMEONE CAN'T STAY ON TARGET! >><<

I long for the day when I can use stuns on my own damn group members.

They were probably sick of you trying to mez everything and wasting their aoes.

Skip trying to stun your groupmates, and stun the mobs instead. Then everyone is happy. Stuns/roots > Mez

Nice theory, except the group that prompted the rant had no heavy AoEers and at the time I had two mobs mezzed and another one rooted while the rest of the group fought a fourth. Mid 50s group in SoS going around a small, tightly packed room with a bunch of single encounter ^^^ heroics. We had two healers in the group, one of them had to go AFK and put autofollow on the other. The healer that was being autofollowed died after I got a bunch of resists on an add that popped so the AFK healer's autofollow shut off. We were trying to keep the room clear hoping she'd come back, but a bunch popped at once, necessitating mez. Except that lunkhead kept waking them up, and when he died they came after me and the non-AFK healer, and that caused the group to wipe.

I don't usually use mez in groups, but it ain't easy keeping three single encounter ^^^ mobs that are six levels above you under control. Roots and stuns are nice, but when you have a lot of adds and resists, and you need to park a mob for a long duration, you have to use what you can.

Just because life is a bitch, the AFK healer came back not thirty seconds after the wipe. Doh.

Just ask yourtank nicely before you even enter the zone to stay on one encounter at a time and leave the crowd control to you. If he understands it is ok to tab around the current encounter but not ok to grab an add then it will all work out in the end. I am a tank myself and even when I am told not to grab adds I sometimes do it out of pure instinct, but then again heroic instances at lvl 70 aren;t exactly life threatening

It's really rare to find a chanter-friendly tank. Most people just don't understand the mechanics of mezzing or when it is / isn't a good idea. As suggested, mention when you zone in that if shit gets out of control that you'll be mezzing adds and that the tank should stick to what he's already on and everyone should be assisting him. Even then, in most pickup groups nothing's going to stay mezzed b/c people will be all over the place. Just something you'll have to get used to until you find some people that you can trust.

If you find a chanter-friendly tank, stick him on your friends list immediately and if you're getting a group together again talk to him first. They're few and far between.

I only bitch about it when the group needs adds mezzed to stay alive and people break it and we wipe.

Who the fuck groups with a mezzer on a regular basis? Seriously? It happens like twice a year for the average player. Yes it sucks donkey nutz for you, but that's just that way it is for two reasons. One, your class is fucking rarer than straight show tune singers. Not impossible to find one, but it sure as fuck isn't common. To most players, you're more mythical than the Loch Ness monster. *** They aren't used to having to change their playstyle to accomodate yours. *** Two, Sony fucked up when designing crowd control. It's a shitty system which is why you have a lot of grief when trying to use one of your defining skills.

Unless you're saving a PUGs ass on a really nasty add, don't bother. If you're being asked to mez in Nizara or something that's different but it's a playstyle concept that is foreign to the vast majority of players, and there's nothing worse than a fucking mezzer crying their ass off because someone in the group can't control their AE. You and I both know there's always one that can't. Save your breath. They won't change, and you'll just be left breathless.
