I dunno, they already have a caster/melee preference divide between the troubadors and dirges. A spell like that (perhaps instead of puppetmaster? or possession?) would further push illusionist and coercer into like camps.

Possession kicks ass for soloing heroics, yea its completely useless in a raid but its nice to be able to go into say KC possess a guardian and use open wound and rampage mixed with the mob's killer auto attack things tend to fall well within the 36 second time and its a hell of alot easier and faster once you know what you are doing then petting something and piecing away at whatever.
You can also play with other heroics, most have little tricks to them that you can use to kill just about anything around them. The soothe from the wisdom line helps alot with possession since its casting range is so short.
And yet one more idea is to send your pet on your target while you are casting possession on a different mob, once the spell is casting you can easily switch targets.
Possession is a very powerful soloing tool and it can speed things up dramatically, i have no complaints on this spell whatsoever. Anyone who picks up a coercer should know they have specialized abilities for soloing and if you dont want them then play another class.
Most raiding guilds want at least once coercer in their guild for the MT group, and since coercers are still fairly rare, especially with all of ones who have now betrayed its pretty simple to get into a decent guild. Most want two.
Coercer have definately been set up defensively for raiding.
The fact that the coercer can solo just about anything the devs haven't given epic immunities as well as the fact that most raids want at least one, tends to lead me to believe there will never be any serious new skills added to the class in the near future, so you might as well stop wishing.
