This is an extended explanation for something I was talking about with Kittiarah in the coercer channel earlier this morning about getting more spell damage for certain fights. Where convulsions is a greater part of your damage, you want to get more than the customary 600 spell damage. Hostage and Spell Scourge cap at about 850 spell damage.

The VS fight comes to mind as one where you want to increase your spell damage further. At 600 spell damage, convulsions hit for 2800. At 800 spell damage, convulsions hit for an average of 3000 damage. My DPS accordingly went from 1700 to 2172 with the same buffs and same Link amounts, even though Hemorrhage averaged a lower amount, probably due to a small loss in crits (2180 to 2150).

Spell damage is pretty easy to find in abundance nowadays. Here's a list of some of the higher amounts by slot:

I definitely wouldn't recommend these items on a regular basis, especially when there's better weapons/shoulders/cloaks that are pretty easily available, but situationally you probably want to keep some of this stuff around in your bags and play around with it to make it work for you.

2. Mantle of Prexus shows only 2 Crit dmg for me. Is it a bug?

Fatalisis leggings are from Venril Sathir. And for the mantle,that's me linking the wrong item, (d'oh). It's fixed now.

With all the crit gear out there alot of people are running around with high crit rates in a raid setup. At least in my opinion 600 doesn't really cut it for BoE anyway. Since BoE is added after the crit check
it's not a terrible idea to wear BoE gear that will cap out on your crits with VM running. I agree with you 100% Revel, just wanted to throw my 2 cents in.

Yeah, even for non-convulsions fights, having more spell damage to cap out the dots instead of just worrying about Hemorrhage is getting more and more appealing to me.

Yeah if I can get away with it, by virtue of not needing the extra resists or hps, I'll run around with 950 or so to spell dam and mid 40's on the spell crit. Hps are down in the mid to upper 6k range though so that obviously doesn't work for a lot of situations.

You think we'd see use out of 950 SD? Honest question, will have to look with VM running, and I suppose the crit factor.. I'm running near to 80% now, so probably something I should start looking toward.

Edit: Do you think the fuschia finery would warrant a secondary choice for head? +95 SD I believe.
