Default Frowned on to charm quest mobs?

Hanging in SS yesterday, I was charming anything I could to see how it performed.

I came upon Rashad, level 52 Brawler type. Well at 47, he was still an easy charm. But the kicker is that his level is 4-5 above the orcs I was after that he simply demolished them.

Then same with the Rujarkian Highwayman Leader, who's 49 but fights like a champ.

So do the mobs repop after a while as if they were dead? Or do I need to not do that again?

lmao

they dont repop till you release it or it dies
also some times it bugs ring events

just watch tells, say, shout and world chat
cause who knows what will be needed for quest

if someone needs a mob i have charmed for a quest i just /camp name and let them have it, i have been shitted on by other people before but thats not how i play

It's definitely frowned upon to charm quest mobs. It's poor mechanics to allow these things to be charmed at all, but alot of the older content wasn't filtered very well. Like Apollodon said, they don't repop. If you charm even one member of an encounter, the encounter won't respawn until all members are dead. Charming quest mobs probably amounts to "zone disruption" which is the basic catchall. Plat farmers who monopolize mobs that happen to be needed for quests, even when they are plentiful, are generally petitioned for this. Of course, people probably don't petition first when they know it's just someone who didn't know better.

Plat farmers? Why would plat farmers care? Or charming the best protector while they harvest or farm?

Level for level, Rashad was one the best, even beating out most casters.

You misread.

People report plat farmers under the same category that charming quest mobs would fall under simply because plat farmers kill quest mobs (for body drop items to sell). If plat farmers can get cited and suspended for it, there's no reason someone disrupting quest mobs couldn't.

I'm not saying what you did was horrible and outrageous, and I doubt that without persistent reports and petitions about you, that anything would be done at all before they even talk to you about it. I was just commenting to be aware of it.

Ahh, gotcha. Thanks for clarifying.

I can see why they'd hunt them, but that begs the question of why a quest mob is dropping loot unrelated to the quest. Rhetorical, this is SOE after all.
