Default Despotic Mind spell line..does it work?

This is the line that says it does a certain percent in damage based on how much power the target spends.

I never see any numbers pop up on a mob that uses power while this is active on them. Is it silent, or does it actually do damage to mobs based on power use?

it works on very, very few mobs in the game and is barely worth casting unless you know a mob will proc it... two good ones are the mistress of the veil in eh and the scorp in mc..

Back before LU13, mobs used the spell/CA that was applicable to their level. The problem that came from this was that if you power drained the mob, it could only auto-attack.

In LU13, mobs started using the lowest level (hence lowest power usage) version of their abilities, regardless of their level. This meant that they had plenty of power to use, even if you tried sitting there and power draining it down. Even then, there are special abilities that use no power. As a result power draining became all but useless. As a side consequence, it also made the Despotic Mind line of spells pretty much all but useless as well, with the exception of a handful of mobs in the game.

I understand it is still useful in PvP, as is power draining (at least compared to PvE) but that's about it.

Ah okay, thank you for explaining it to me.

I have to say that it's very strange. Why have coercers had an ability that does almost nothing for so long? Well, I guess it has one use. If I think the fight will last more than 24 seconds, I'll throw that spell on there so it procs the damage at the end. Or it helps start/finish a HO.

Still..as much as I like coercers, from a development standpoint, they sure do have some strange quirks.

Strange quirks... hehe, such a diplomatic answer.
Despotic Mind is mostly a proc-carrier for me. It casts fairly quick, sits on my main hotbar (for pvp, where the spell is actually good) and has that minute damage at the end.

While it's good on pvp, it's completly useless on pve. But perhaps... that's SOE logic...

-Powerdrain is useful on pvp server ---> it should stay, no one cares about pve..

-this one-shooting mobs should get nerfed, no i think we nerf EVERY MOB IN THE HOLE EXPANSION on pvp AND PVE...

i give a fuck what spell is good on pvp or not, it's useless on pve so i want another ability or they should fix it in a way. Mobs can have billion of power so it will last weeks to drain them completely but they should use power in a real way for they're spells.
