What sort of percentage - if any - of your overall DPS is from melee?

I've recently joined a new guild and started raiding with them through T1 and T2 zones and compared to the numbers in here my DPS is poor. I am specced for VM and Perpetuality with the rest in STA for Empathic Aura. On fights with multiple mobs I might do around 2000 DPS, but on zone parse for PR, Thuuga and Kor-Sha for instance I would do about 1500. Our raidwide DPS creeps above 30k on the zone parse. I have not been staffing the mob except to apply Nullifying Staff.

My cast order is essentially Chronosiphoning, Psyche, Brainshock, Asylum, Hostage, Spell Lash, Hemo, Ego, Shockwave. Then basically mashing whatever is up because everything is frontloaded with spell damage. I also mash Dispell Magic to theoretically get some additional spell procs. I always make sure Spell Lash is on prior to an AE. I have the heroic opportunity trigger macro'd to Hemorrhage and I use mastery strikes whenever they are up and dispatched is applied. For spell procs I have BCG, Mystical Orb ear and Staff of the Impaler.

I have 44% crit unbuffed and around 55% in a raid. I have approximately 750 spell damage bonus. I am in the MT group, I don't get Tandem and my INT does not receive any buffs so I am sat at around 850. As I mentioned I don't staff the mob at all - would speccing STR line instead of STA be a good idea, or should I be able to do 3.5k without meleeing? I have the Eye of the Siren which seems to have a reasonable damage range so I'd probably use that with the STR line.

You need to streamline your button mashing to make sure you're hitting hemorrhage more. You can easily turn your 1500 into 2k, even with a raid parsing that low. Melee'ing the mobs will not net you very much gain, because for the majority of higher zones you're not going to be well served by being in melee range.

Right. I probably reapply the reactives a bit too much when its not necessary. Currently most of my DPS comes from Convulsions and Hemorrhage - both about the same amount. This look normal or should I be doing far more with Hemorrhage?

Is there any mileage in leaving Brainshock/Asylum ticking if you get a crit or should it just be mashed for the frontload damage?

Raiding I usually get 30% dps from convulsions (or more), 20% from hemorrhage. And no, no point to leaving those ticking in my opinion. If you've been doing other things and brainshock has less than 6s to expire then let it fire forceful.

I'm a proponent of STR line. It's not only fun, but there are numerous fights where you it's fine to be in melee range. My tank isn't dying due to lack of heal crits and STR line gives me about 15% of my damage.

Yeah thats the way I was looking at it too regards the heal crits. When I did my first couple of raids I didn't have any points in STA simply because I didn't have enough AA's. Doesn't seem to have made a lot of difference now that I do: the tank was fine then and is fine now.

I may switch to STR just because, as you say, it's a bit more fun than just standing there and on the mobs that we are doing at the moment (only T2) there don't seem to be any potent AE's. If it sucks or if it ends up that the tank is going down easily then I'll re-evaluate but I don't think 16% extra heal crit makes or breaks a pull.

Well since LU43 i was getting a 30-40% hit ratio on a lvl 88 Epic, even with 8.1k mental debuffs up just from myself and probably way over 12-13k debuff raid wide.
