Default Possession - How does it work?

I am getting this spell next level and am curious how it works. The spell description makes it sound possibly useful, but I have seen a lot of complaining on the forums about how worthless the spell is.

So, it lets you take control of a mob and use its spell and abilities, right? If it was a cleric pet, could you make it heal, for example?

Possesion would be a GREAT spell if it wasn't so limited due mainly to its duration. Its 20 seconds.. in this 20 seconds you have to take into account having the mob run back to the group and then back to a safe place to drop it effectively knocking off one third of that time. All that aside in RoK most mobs have an aggro range equal to or greater than the max range to cast this spell...

All in all its a fun spell... meaning, its a fun spell. Its fun to spike a 4 K parse in instance groups while pissing off tanks and what not... a lot of people never see it so they get nervouse with the rainbow colored mob... all that aside it really holds no use what so ever in a raid situation. Using it as a healer is worthless.

Possession is just a super limited (20 second, hard to get into-range-to-cast) charm. Your possessed pet shares your faction, but uses its level, so it gets attacked by everything even if things are green to you. Which then attacks you after the spell ends.

Possession is infamous for being rumored to break epic encounters.

It has a use to peek at what a mob can do, and to move mobs around, although charm can be used for moving as well. But basically, it's a fun spell, like Firesys said.

i use it a lot in ROK instances. I parrse most fights with it above 4k easily depending on mob. You really have to be careful tho becuase you can easily pull adds like revel said and when it ends you have at least one other addd that is serioulsy pissed off at you so helps to hit root as fast as you can and throw up fear. But most of the time its more trouble than its worth and tanks don't tend to like it.

if we could use it on already engaged mobs i think its usefulness would be tripled.

Ouch, you can't use it on mobs that are already in combat? So you have to pull with Possession? That kinda neuters a lot of uses I was trying to think up for this spell..lol.

Only 20 seconds of duration? The Adept I says 24 and the Master I says 32.

As much as I like coercers, there's been several times when I would see an ability that sounds good on paper, but when you get it in game, it's either dumbed down or it doesn't work that well. Definitely some strange thinking going on over in the development cubicles.

Beating a long dead horse there. Strange thinking? More like apathetic bordering on hostile.

Okay, I finally got around to trying this spell out.

Uh...it's...well I don't understand why it's so limited. Okay, so a possessed mob can squeeze out some nice DPS. But we basically have to pull with Possession and..that's bad. If our pet beats a ^^^ heroic down pretty hard, who does it come after once Possession breaks? Us. Who does the pet go after? Us. Seems like there should be more rewards for such a huge risk.

I think making it usable on engaged mobs would solve most of the problems with it.

Personally I'd rather see the spell gone completely and replaced with something that has nothing to do with pets altogether. But maybe that's just me.

It's really underwhelming compared to, say, fusion or bolster.

I have found that the pacify aa ability and possesion work well together. You see a add comming you pacify it it roams into the group then you posses it, and for 20 seconds u dont have qa add.
sucks that u ahve to use a AA ability to make this spell remotly viable.
