Since I hit 80 on my coercer, I've finished most of the Kunark quests and have been going back doing quests in zones that are gray that I missed levelling up. Possess essence is a big help in these situations, because if you're running around a T5 zone, charm doesn't change the level of the mob being charmed, so you have a T5 pet, whereas possess essence gives you a level 80 pet.
Plus the spell is a hell of a lot of fun. It works on any mob with levels. Guards in city zones, epics, cows... When I was running around Bonemire someone was fighting the young dragon for the tink bag quest, so I copied it and had a level 80 pet dragon. I parked it by the cloud platform at the crash site and watched people freak out.
