Coercer vs Illus for non-raid situation
So,
I have been out of the game for a few months now, and I recently created a coercer to play around with. I have previous T7 and T8 raid experience (with mythical) as a brigand and a guardian. I know the role of both of these classes in a raid-situation, but I don't know their abilities as well outside of that role.
My question is, is there really any advantage to either class for simple game playing and leveling through the tiers? I'm now level 33 and I'm starting to get a hang of the coercer class, it's control abilities, and timing with stun, stifle, root, mezz, etc to solo named mobs. Is there any advantage to staying a coercer? Should I change to illus? Does it even matter?
If you were going back through the levels, would you pick an illus or coercer? If I was to get to level 80 and raid, I could obviously make a somewhat educated decision about which class to pick based on the needs of a raid guild. But, since I don't see myself doing that right now, should I stay a coercer or become an illus?
Thanks,

Re: Coercer vs Illus for non-raid situation
It depends on your playstyle. Coercers are definately more tedious, but potentially more powerful. You will also die more if you enjoy soloing with charm, if death eats at you this is not the class for you.
Also you generally have to be a bit faster as a coercer, and have less rooom for error, illusionists get a bonus mezz over coercers, and one that casts very fast.
The biggest difference between the classes doesn't really come into play until higher lvls when you start getting more class specific spells, if your playing mostly at lower levels, both classes are much the same. The biggest differences are going to be your Achievements, and for that its best to look at the trees and decide what you like more.
There is no reason to really betray and lose your current spells until higher lvl unless you start off that way to play a certain race.
Now with raiding comes alot of different rules that will make most of that mute.

Re: Coercer vs Illus for non-raid situation
charm is win, see if you can get even a low lvl master and spec for charm resistance reduction (if you're soloing a lot) and imho you'll have an easier time lvling than if you were an illy...

Questing is the fastest xp after lvl 30 or so. Has little to do with class.

Re: Coercer vs Illus for non-raid situation
Honestly, it's more like A) do you love to solo B) Do you want to be more useful in ANY group or mostly for Tanks / Healers and C) Do you like Massive DPS?
A) Coercer > Illus
B) Any = Illus, MT / Heal = Coercer
C) Both
There's no "better" class... just depends on how you play and what you want to do.

Oh, but questing in lower tiers will go faster on a Coercer, especially with a good pet.

Re: Coercer vs Illus for non-raid situation
questing anywhere goes faster with a coercer imho, charm/suicide through w/e to get to the mobs/updates you need...
ive even seen charmed mobs that get suicided and die drop master chests... only once, but still..

Re: Coercer vs Illus for non-raid situation
When do coercer's get their 2nd reactive off spells? 40? I'm enjoying the class at 37!
Thx,
