I would have thought that:

would be up on top of offhand/ranged items considering that spell crit bonus is almost like base dmg if you've got enough crit chance. Is the proc on PG worth more than the +3 spell crit bonus?

Let it slip through my fingers last time it dropped, mostly because I'm saving up my dkp for next time C Mayong's orb drops.

Well, my original calculations had Spell Crit bonus nearly equal to Base Damage, but after testing, it seemed that the actual improvement was more around 60% to 80% of Base Damage's effectiveness. I could have an error in my methodology of how I'm calculating it, though, but until I get alot of gear with Spell Crit bonus, I'm being conservative.

The other thing possibly related is that because of the TSO bard set bp, procs have had a slight boost. Setting the assumption that a normal coercer does about 6,000 damage purely through spells, that means every 60 dps from a proc is about a 1% dps increase. A PG is doing 100 dps now, or 25% more than before, and by itself would be considered better than the 3 Spell Crit bonus in my current calculations.

Of course things are subject to change, cuz I make plenty of mistakes and could be wrong. I tweak values every few weeks sometimes for certain items based on how much data I can gather.

Seems like it would all be dependant on a person's crit. For instance, on a person who crits on every mob, that +3 bonus would basically be 3% base damage would it not? Whereas on a person with less crit it would not be as much.

FYI, Indestructible Obliterator's Shackle dropped for us off of Varsoon, so it must just be a shared loot item.

For Spell Crit bonus, my gain was definitely less in comparsion to Base Damage bonus, but I had difficult in making my calculations exact because I was only testing 4 Spell Crit Bonus vs. 4 Base Damage bonus. In my testing the Base Damage item always came out ahead.

Also for the Shackle, we also had it off Varsoon, I meant to amend it earlier; seems to be a common drop for him to drop not only 1 item off his own loot table, but one of the shackles as well.

Anybody else tested the Signature Dagger lately? Wasn't procing at all tonight in raids then tested it on Training Dummies and it still wouldn't proc, took off everything but it to see if it was a stacking issue and still nothing.

Spell crit bonus isn't worth as much as base damage for chanters cause how easy +sd is to cap for most of your spells. It's much closer to base damage for sorcs (since raising the +sd cap with base damage doesn't really matter if you're well below the normal cap anyway).

Do your tests with 300 sd and I bet spell crit bonus would look better (well, only relatively, it'd look the same, but base damage would look worse =).

Yeah, I must have a flaw in my understanding of the mechanic because I believed that neither Spell Crit nor Base Damage were being affected by Spell Damage. It would have to be that or something with how the two are multiplied, but theoretically with the numbers I used the damage should have came out differently.

Instead, over about 50 attempts per setup, the average hit with 4 Crit bonus damage was 90-97% of its equivalent damage with 4 base damage. In the tests I maintained 1,000 spell damage because of a lack of proper gear that was pure crit. Since base damage is on the int line, I couldn't remove it without respeccing which was a bit costly for me, and I had to take into consideration the 5 base and crit bonus from the Shadows aa as well as the base and crit bonuses to individual spells. That meant 25 base/9 crit bonus versus 29 base/5 crit bonus were my actual testing numbers, which is just not ideal for a point-to-point comparison. In fact I thought my math would show that the crit bonus was better than I thought it was, since 125% * 109% > 129% * 105%, but obviously there were other factors in play.

Anyway, bottom line is spell crit bonus is still pretty good, but base damage is better. I did end up moving the Void Caller symbol up again.
