Default Despotic Mind -- Who should I cast it on in a Raid?

Hi All:

I am still very much learning to play a coercer especially in a raid setting.

Yesterday I was in ToMC and got a tell from the person acting as MT coercer... "Who are you casting Despotic Mind on?"

I thought to myself...duh...myself. I created the macro along time ago to target myself. After all its not based on damage it is just "three procs" of X damage -- one proc per spell. Coercers cast fast so seems logical to cast it on myself.

I sent a tell back to the guy, "I am casting it on myself". He says, "ok".

As I said...I am still trying to learn so I send him a tell back, "Should I be casting it on myself?"

He told me that he normally casts it on wizard or warlock as he hits his despotic mind then his debuffs.

So... Who do you cast despodic mind on in raids? In groups?

I always cast it on myself. If you are diligent enough you can eek out a bit more dps by precasting it on another mage (or tank, taunts will proc it as well) before the pull, but once the pull is going it's best to cast it on yourself imo. Kind of silly to really ever consider casting it on anyone else once a fight is going, and you should always precast it as well.

Yes, I would definitely agree you should cast it on yourself. Make it easy and create a macro with you as the target.

yourself only, unless you can stack multiple minds on different mages pre-pull due to your high reuse.

With the AA's making this last longer, I pre-cast it on other raid enchanters first, and make an effort to hit myself with it before pull. If for some reason we don't have one, I'll pick a random mage (tho in groups I've seen fighters and scouts proc). I make two buttons - one that is targetted to me, and one that I change every raid / group to target someone else.

When the pull comes in at the exact right time and my alternate target is diligent I'm halfway through reuse on my 3rd DM with all 6 triggers of the previous landing.

During the fight I only continue to cast it on myself (no use in casting it on anyone else).

Also as an interesting note that DM counts as a hostile spell in terms of using up your DM triggers, so if you're going to hit someone else in your raid pre-pull, make sure you do that before pre-casting on yourself.

During fast pulls (so most of the time) I don't exactly have that much time to plan it all out, so I just hit the one pretargetted to me.

Also, I'm not sure if it's the same since they changed who gets the damage but I always precast it on the chanter with the highest crit just in case that effects it.

I suppose I should test it with a training dummy and my gimp dirge on the other box and probably will do when I get home...

It used to assign damage to the person you cast it on, i.e. the tank would get more aggro casting it on him. It now attributes all damage to you. This means that you should probably pick out a dependable mage if you want more dps out of the spell for your pre-cast.

If I'm feeling ambitious and the tank is giving a consistent (and long enough) incoming call, I pre-cast on one of the illusionists first, then cast it on myself so I can eek out a bit of extra dps. It refreshes fast enough for pre-cast. But then once the fight is going, I only cast on myself.

I did once pre-cast it on a warlock and myself on an encounter and that was sooo ugly. My tank was like WTF, how did you pull aggro so fast... nothing like TMX2 and reactives all proc'ing like crazy in the first 10 seconds of a fight... Live and learn, die and have to rebuff
