Najena's ring of readiness

I'm curious about how everyone uses it. I got it in the first few days of TSO (to the hate of most of my sorcerer friends), thinking it was a big upgrade and, well, I'm not seeing it.

I heard that it caps the damage on your spells for 10 seconds... so why would it be that good for a coercer, considering that 750 damage caps 95% of our spells?

I'm definitely interested in hearing how people use it... which spells would benefit the most from the effect? For now I seem better off using another ring and casting something instead of wasting time clicking it...

You get the most benefit hitting it before you hit Shockwave on a group of adds. Otherwise, it's only a few hundred extra damage for most other spells.

Remember that base damage increases the spell damage cap. Most coercers already sit at 20% just from aa's and choker, dark orb, and Ferzhul ring brings you to 45%. That means that your 95% cap rises to 1088 on these items alone.

Doesn't AA and choker bring you to 25%? Or did we get nerfed again and I didn't notice?

But anyway, I've definitely noticed it's much harder to hit the spell damage cap (particularly for Hostage) these days. I'm at 34% base damage with AA's, choker, Ferzhul ring and the legendary set shoulders. (39% in raid with our SK.) A combo that a lot of coercers should find attainable.

It seems like items like the Najena ring and, particularly, \aITEM -1858013698 -1465189978:Ykeshan Hoop of the Pestilence\/a should be considered more desireable, since it's harder to maintain the BOE cap now. I've been wearing that earring to pretty good effect for a while now, and run at around 850 +spell damage (pre-proc). I spent a good chunk of a group one day watching for that proc and it's up a lot. Plus, it hits the whole group, which is nice.

Also, the proc doesn't seem to actually drop when you cast a spell, despite the wording, though maybe it just re-ups that often. Hard to tell.

EDIT: I looked again and it doesn't have the "next spell only" type wording after all, at least through the above link. So yeah, it's a continuous 12 seconds of 10% BoE, up a lot of the time.

Yeah you might want to take a 2nd look at the AAs. I think it's like 8% or so now.

Ah Revel could have written just a teensy bit clearer, I suppose there's a couple ways to read that. He said:

If you read it like this instead:
Most coercers already sit at 20% just from aa's. Add a choker, dark orb, and Ferzhul ring brings you to 45%.

Then it's clearer.

But yeah we can get a fairly good amount going, and with the gear upgrades this expansion most of us are not reaching the spell mod cap anymore.

Potentially obtainable by anybody
15% Kos Int line
05% Pyschic blast TSO capstone
10% Bloodthirsty choker
05% Ferzhul ring
05% SK in raid
10% Troub in group
04% T2 shoulders
54% Total

Add 5% more on select spells, 10% on hemorrhage.

Once you start adding in higher end raid gear, or contested mob gear, along with proc buffs like dark mail gauntlet's and aidyl's belt of dragonsongs (or whatever that belt I've never even seen anybody equipping is called) or trakanon belt, etc, you're not too far off from 100% base spell damage adjustment.

Oh... yeah I forgot about Psychic Blast... and my dark mail gauntlets. Not to mention all the crit bonus gear.

All in all it seems to me like % BoE procs aren't nearly as worthless for us as they used to be.

Yeah, makes me wonder about that gold mask from Vek1 that I never bothered trying to obtain. Prolly still not worth what you're giving up but at least it's not absolute garbage now.

About the mask - I've read that it's not base damage that it adds, but 10% of your damage mod. So it would barely add 75 damage overall.

At least it's the answer I got when I asked people about it, and what I was told... but I have yet to find any confirmation about it. Otherwise it would be really good. Maybe someone here can confirm it.

Its %BoE. It never used to be good, but now if you're at say +50% base damage mod, your spell damage cap would be highly expanded from the original value of 750 for most of our dps. In that respect, it may be hard to maintain the 1K+ spell damage needed to cap out most our spells, so I guess the gold mask is more viable now.
