If you want your pet to be of equal quality to what your'e charming/PEing, use charm. You'll need 3 conc slots, and there is a chance it will break.
PE on the other hand creates a weaker "copy" of your target, it will never break, and with mythical it doesn't require any concentration slots.

So if you have conc to go around and are able to Charm pets will do more dps and will take hits better. However since epic mobs can't be charmed and in raid you should never have free concentration slots, PE is the way to go if you are raiding.

For grouping, you really have to make the determination if the difference between your charmed pet and your PE pet is equal too or greater than buffing up your group. Usually it isn't (there are exceptions) and as such, charm is pretty crappy except for soloing.

More HP/Power, the attacks they use will hit harder and be resisted less.

it procs auspex which does (maybe besight those heroic droags in skyfire) more dmg than what you can expect from any charmed mob...

only reason I use charm is to clean stuff really quick to get where I want to go....
