Could someone explain Possess Essence to me?

Just hit 65 and got this and I can't see why I would use charm ever again, appart from PvP. Way guildys explain it this one is better (higher HP and dps from mob) and doesnt break. Anyone say if that's right and if so what use charm is now?

Possess Essence creates a pet out of the mob you target when you cast it, while charm takes the mob you target. PE never breaks, and once/if you get your mythical, PE no longer takes up 3 concentration slots. Pretty much charm is useless except for some occasional solo situations. Raid mobs also cant be charmed, so PE is the only way to get a pet then.

I normally only use Charm for the "oh shit" moments if the group starts to wipe, or does wipe and I'm the only one left standing. Also use a lot for solo'ing dungeons but just to suicide the trash to named.

Far as dps goes, think it was charm caster pets for more damage, but PE melee...or maybe other way around.

Just from soloing stuff in chelsith, M1 charm pets do more DPS than M1 PE pets it seems.

Ya, what the last person said. If you raid and have myth to remove the conc slot cost, PE is yer best friend. Considering you're only lvl 65 or so though, you WILL still see far more benefit from using a charmed mob vs a PE one when both spells are same rank. DPS of charmed mob will be much higher than out of a PE pet usually.

Sure, PE doesn't break and leave you with a sudden add to have to kill/mezz/recharm or whatever... After 65 lvls of learning how to juggle multiple mobs with charm/mezz/root etc though, this should be second nature already.

PE is also awesome for lower level zones (say farming for L&L piece). If you're 80 and charm a lvl 20 mob, it is still lvl 20. But if you use PE it's lvl 80 and you can pretty much point and pet-attack away like a summoner.

Not even that, if the mobs are 1-2 levels lower than you, PE is far superior I've found; just due to the way mitigation works in this game.

Hmm, you sure about using it for L&L? Just tried it on the horseys in TS and it was hitting like a level 27 mob...
