Back on subject, the individual pieces of set gear more or less suck; its the bonuses that make them attractive.

Even with the Proc nerf, I'd say the HoDD is still better than our set hat.

You just have to weigh those bonuses in your decision. If wearing the set hat yields no additional set bonus from the set; then I'd wear the HoDD any day of the week. If the hat is your 4th piece and you don't feel like 'sploiting the 4-piece bonus, then wear the hat for the benefit of the raid.

Huh ?

Aside from avatar loot .. T4 set items are the best(or close to it) items for a few pieces. I could see wearing 4 pieces without question. If we are talking T2-T3 then yah .. the pieces more or less suck.

If you are raiding avatars then just get HotLR :P

Well, not even counting avatar loot, out of the 7 pieces in the set, only 3 of them are better than instance gear. BP (which is surpassed by Avatar loot), Feet, and Bracers, arguably.

If you can afford to lose the crit, the bracers are "ok". The feet are only slightly better than a legendary drop in a heroic zone. Our two-piece bonus also totally sucks, so unless you wear 4 or 6 pieces (w/legs) you won't get much benefit.

Most other non-chanter mages have a great set. Sorcs and Summoners have great sets, for example.

Chanters pretty much got boned on the sets. I was hoping when they upgraded gear it would get better, but instead of ours getting a whole lot better like every other (non-illy) mage, it remained the same...

Its a pretty simple number crunch... Use ACT info to see if the 10% CA DPS increase is bigger than the difference between HoDD and Set hood.

If the 10% CA DPS is higher I would go for 6 set. Is it lower, keep your HoDD on.

Considering this though there is ofcourse a big difference in MT/OT.. I would just switch it on and off for the class on which the 10% is meant.

Besides if we are talking about anything under 100 DPS... I couldn't be bothered when the raid is doing 200k.

Except most people won't see the full set for a long time, so I don't think we can take that into account.

The 10% CA bonus on a tank is about 100-200, and it's easy to calculate a simple number: most tanks parse only 1-2k of combat arts, while the other 3-6k is all autoattack. 10% of 1,000 to 2,000 is about 100-200 dps. It used to be better with the spell base damage but of course that's the whole problem of this mess.

5 Melee Crit Bonus is good though, and usually can be averaged to about 200-500 dps equivalent per person. It only widens the gap that the proc changes have opened between the top scouts and mages.

The OP clearly states that with using the TSO Hood he will get his/her 6 set bonus. So in this case we have to take that into account.

By the numbers Revel has put up, I would give up HoDD for the 6 set bonus. Let the tank enjoy the extra DPS and the extra aggro he manages to gain from it. This is in fact coming from a person that doesn't like switching his gear around (mitigation changes suck!) so please don't take any of my advice to heart without considering other options!
