My best advice, if soloing is a pita and it can be, find a priest class and become fast friends ... It will speed up your leveling and make those encounters seem not so hard =)

Simple Answer.. you lack a lot of tools which come with more AA, higher lvl.

More specific.. what quality are your stuns? you got 2 up to lvl 45, will get another open ae dmg/stun with lvl 50.

My advice.. get someone to help you since the class you are playing has not reached any potential yet. For your personal dps Agi/Int and CH line in EoF tree...

If you're going to use charm as a tactic then you need to really focus on a few necessary points.

1) subjugation skill, you need this skill to be as high as possible, going down the dreamweaver line, adorning for subj, and duoing with a troub or warlock are all very helpful.

5 points in the Charm AA is useful as well.

2) target selection, ideally you want to charm mobs many levels above you, the deepest red I ever charmed was 9 levels above me, best kill was a named heroic group 10 levels over me.

mages - generally the most dps
priests - nuke slightly less hard but heal themself and can receive coercive healing

3) tactics - /pet back off, /pet stay here, stand away from your pet so you have a chance of living when (not if) charm breaks. keep your target rooted and stunned, having the target rooted when charm breaks means 1 mob rushing you not 2.

4) death count - accept up front that dying potentially 20-30 times a night isn't out of the question, even with that you can still make good forward progress.

One side benefit to leveling up this way is it really hones your reaction skills.

I created a macro for root that has /pet back off in it (/pet attack is tied to hemorrhage). Nothing is more annoying than throwing a root for a chance to catch your breath and having your pet smack the mob immediately, breaking the root.

When using a charmed pet, target through the pet as much as possible and have a macro that throws a stun and then a re-mez.

Revel is right re: stuns. Use them, dazes and even mezzes to keep your target's damage output reduced and give you the ability to stack some reactives for more damage output.

Harowen's point #4: Testify!

One thing that helped me immensely soloing is having a hotkey to cancel any maintained DoT spells:

/cancel_maintained asylum
/cancel_maintained silence
/cancel_maintained brainshock
/cancel_maintained simple minds

Follow that hotkey with a mez or root and they'll never break in a tight situation while stuns are recycling. If you happen to have any DoT procs, you can cancel them in the same hotkey if you know the names of the actual DoT components for the procs. Keep in mind that due to the new naming conventions, you just need to use the base spell name and it'll cancel any level of those spells you have up. If you wanted, you could add an extra line to back your pet off. The macro was a boon at lower levels when my stuns simply didn't last long enough on heroic content and for when I was soloing stuff for the fabled epic.

The best use for charm that I have found is to clear your way through a heroic dungeon to get somewhere solo.
Granted, you do not get xp for doing it, but I believe that your charmed mob still can drop a chest when killed by another mob.
Then you just switch, wash and repeat.

Which brings me to my advice, which is to try using more roots and stuns and daze to control damage. Get used to timing it so you can fit in 1-2 spells between the stun and the next spell, and then root when you have nothing else up. You can add a pet in after that. Yes, it's more work and more preparation (to make sure your path is clear) than an SK which just runs in and smacks stuff. All tanks are much better soloers until you get to the hardest stuff.

For ae stuff, you can start with mez but I just ae them all as best I can, since you get 2 ae stuns and 1 ae daze, if you can output enough damage you should be able to do it, but I don't remember exactly how it was at your level.
This.

Still leveling mine but all I can add is use your single target mezz to break encounters after the encounter mezz. A good mezz cycle turns just about any encounter into a string of one on ones.

At 45,I opened with encounter mezz, encounter stunned if more than one resist, single target mezzed/rooted whatever I couldn't deal with then root nuked/burned whatever I wanted. CC spells last longer as they get level replaced so it gets easier and easier to control fights as you level. AA spec helps a lot as well and I found the extra time granted by going Agi line a huge help.

I used charmed casters and even without the AA never had much issue with breaks. Resists and breaks do happen though and dieing lots while figuring out what works for you is just part of the class. When you hit 65 you get possess essence which has the good point of not breaking at all and being a speedbump solo. Every second counts and even if you are in trouble, the ability to control a fight is the biggest advantage you can ever have. Invest in some potions and recover all you want...just takes forever.
