Coercer vs Illu raiddps

Hi,

I'm a returning player, going to fill a chanter spot in my old raidforce... since I usually play DD classes, I want to aim for the chanter with the higher dps potential.

I'm mainly focused on the dps. So who of the two chanters would parse higher numbers in general raid scenarios, well geared in the mage grp?

I did go through the illu and coercer parse thread, but since both mostly came up with different scenarios (tank grp as coercer, mage grp as illu) with no dps of the whole raid either, I couldn't make myself a picture.

I really only care of the dps in the direct comparison of the two, in a perfect group and gear scenario.

My guess goes to the illu since his endgear is more dps aimed? But I have no idea... just don't know what they changed >< last time I played, chanters still had to go <20% mana to even go for dps... the decision was fairly easy back then, since coercers had a hard time to parse higher than illus due to their reactives which only procced when the tank got hit... causing burst dps mostly instead of constant parses...

But this has all changed from what I read... how is the situation nowadays in terms of dps?

Play a Coercer for more dps.

Have to agree.. did some t7 raids with a bunch of lvl 80's (Im only 74(80 aa) with t6 mastercrafted gear) and I outparsed everyone except main tank(80), off tank (80), coercer(80), assassin(73), warlock(80).

all the while I was managing power to the group.

Cant wait til I get 80 and get my t3+myth gear

This is not to boost my own ego or whatever, but I have yet to find an illy that can match my DPS. Thats me in MT / illy in mage group.
Whenever there are only 2 mages in mage group (Illy - random mage) and the Illy gets UT, thats where I have to work for the DPS.

You should really be asking which group you're going to be in. Chanter individual DPS is really comparable - what matters most in the raid are the buffs that they bring. Illys are going to be in mage/dps groups because of TC/IA/Tandem (though that's RW) and Coercers give a melee DPS buffs (group), extra hate for a tank, and the all-important coersive healing.

What spot does YOUR raid need filled? Sounds like mage group...if so...you should go Illy because you'll be helping the raid more as an illy within the mage group. You'll be able to do amazing individual DPS as a coercer in a mage group, but you won't be adding as much to the raid as an Illy would.

Urbannaja gets it exactly right. The coercer gets some great tanking buffs (hate transfer, coercive healing) and the illusionist gets a few extra DPS buffs (Time Compression, Destructive Rampage, Synergism). Our raid assign coercers 'top-down' (main-tank, off-tank, melee dps, mage dps) and illusionists 'bottom-up' (mage dps, melee dps, etc.). If we're lucky enough to have more than 4 chanters, we double-up illusionists in the mage group.

That said, coercers in the MT tank usually do better DPS than illusionists in the mage group. Of course there are exceptions -- I'd love to see 2-3 illies chain-casting Destructive Rampage and Peace of Mind. If you don't mind being in the MT/OT groups, go coercer.

if this is true then you should probably not play with these type of players. In fact you should /t to the players and tell them to kill them selfs.

I hate 2 same classes in 1 group... put your third illu in ot and pimp that group too, tc on the coercer and he will out dps whoever you would give tc in mage group (according you have only 1 wizard in there)

About raidfilling.. go with Urbannaja's advice.

@vulkan write down all names on the list which have been behind u and never group with them again.

Both in the mage group (I don't really raid anymore but a couple times in the last few months we've had a double chanter mage group I've been in) Coercer should out DPS the Illy. Your op suggests you'll be in the mage group, so for more dps go Coercer.

Coercer in MT versus Mage group Illy can be a tough call. I still normally out dps whichever illy is in the mage group, but that doesn't mean I should!
