Actually we do need to know exactly how the hate mechanics work. Nobody knows how threat positions work at all. All we are doing is making guesses, some people think it's position based on how many people there are, others think it's based on a value that you get per round or something else. Do we know how it works? Not at all, there is no real way to tell how it works either.

That's fine and all if we're not supposed to know any of this, but what really pisses me off is getting confirmation on a hate cap that's existed all this time from a dev PM. It's just not right. If they feel it's fine to release such information it shouldn't be handled in this manner.

If they would have handled it differently they'd have been derided all the same for making what people would call a huge bullshit announcement. It's a lose/lose situation for them and personally I think there are a lot better reasons to be pissed off at the developers, so I'll stick to those.

Actually we know from previous development posts how Hate works.

1 point of dmg = 1 hate
1 point of heal is a fraction of 1 hate .3 if my memory doesnt fail me

Hate positions are just common sense. If there is a 24 person raid then the MT has aggro he is in the number 1 position of 24. If he loses aggro to somone then he is number 2 on the hate list therefore uses reinforcement to gain a hate position back to the number 1 spot.

As for hate stacking whether this PM is true or not is not up for debate however its references are to TEST therefore the stacking could be a Test change which is no longer in existence. This needs to be officially confirmed however, because wasting 8 achieve for 10% hate is FTL for all guardians if we cant go over 50% hate.

I still havent even got a confirmation about how Aggression works towards hate gain as cap is approached so........

The first part has never even been remotely hinted at as to what fraction the heals give agro at.

As for Hate positions, I'm like 95% sure actual agro is based on Hate positions and not on actual hate. It takes a certain amount of hate over the person above you to move into their position. That is why after one person pulls agro and dies it rarely goes back to the tank and will instead kill another person or two before going back to the tank.

Yes the heal/hate ratio was not hinted at but blatantly stated on beta forums during eof beta. Hate positions are also the same as they have always been. Its why when I use reinforcement I can tell what position im at by how many times i have to hit the mob to climb back up to hate position numero uno.

Ill draw it out for u.


1st hate position 35k hate
2nd hate position 20k hate
3rd hate position 18k
4th hate position 17k hate
5th 15k
6th me after dying in a grp

The first hti with reinforcement puts me at 15k hate + the dmg i dealt + 300ish from reinforcement proc hate second hit puts me immediately at 17k hate+dmg dealt + proc hate from reinforcement ect ect til im in first position with over 35k hate then all i have to do is create myself a buffer of hate using my CA and taunts. This is why reinforcement is FTW.

From test notes

Modified effectiveness on certain hate increase/reduction/transfer abilities on scout classes and coercers. This makes all achievements that modify hate more worthwhile, and places slightly more responsibility on predators/rogues in controlling their aggro generation.
  • Assassin - Shadows: Reduced percentage
  • Ranger - Reconnoiter: Reduced percentage
  • Swashbuckler - Swarthy Distraction: Reduced percentage
  • Brigand - Confound Adversaries: Increased trigger percentage. Doubled hate reduction amount, but removed hate position decrease.
  • Dirge - Hyran's Angry Sonata: Lower level bonuses are higher than before, but its highest level upgrade bonuses are slightly reduced.
  • Troubador - Alin's Serene Serenade: Its highest level upgrade bonuses are reduced by 3%.
  • Coercer - Smirking Demeanor: Reduced hate increase component, but added a hate transfer component. This allows it provide additional hate transfer bonuses, even when the hate increase percentage cap is reached.
