so im at school and rather than study i think ill share my math and concepts about how i choose weapons when it comes to crits.
(i don't have much item data to work with so ill compare items later)
the reason im posting this is that i find a lot of poeple think that damage ranges are the only measure of how good a weapon is, when in reality you have to also look at delay.
for those who DO think like this, which is better, a weapon that hits 10-100/2s or a weapon that hits 20-90/1s
i think delays matter, and if you don't think so don't read my post
well we all know that crits are +1maxdamage to 30% of max damage. so for simplicity lets say 100%-130% so on average, crits will be 115% of max damage
so what i do when im shopping for what items i think are best is devide the max damage by the delay
so for the cheldraks shard
44-176 2.5
so 176/2.5 = 70.4
so to me i think of that as the crit value, some items are higher, but since i have a 20~ish% chance to crit on my own i take 20% of that number which is 14(i see this sort of as the crit modifier to a weapon, because without crits all you need to use is damage ratings) then add that to the damage value when not critting (87.8) which is 101.8 because im not going to be critting all the time so the base none crit damage is important.
this isnt an exact number to me but more of a value to compare weapons
if you see any huge errors in the way im looking at this let me know, if you think im dumb just post your math rather than turn this into some lame-ass flame thread (save those for the rate-a-retarded forum areas )

The problem is that crits aren't +1 - +30% max damage. I know they are supposed to be, but they aren't... at least with combat arts. I often crit for barely above minimum damage. Am I the only one or have you guys noticed this also?
For auto attack Tangarth is right, auto attack crits are max +1 - 130%. Combat art crits aren't the same, but thats irrelevant when discussing how crits will help you determine what weapons to get.
I made a post somewhere on the assassin board about how much crits help GDH damage, but I don;t feel like looking it up so I'll just leave it at I said something once.
i havent noticed a ton when it comes to CA's but my i've never seen myself crit for 800 with a 600-1000 damage ca before
but it's deffinately for autoattck +1 to 30%
for those who think it's greater than 30% you're probably seeing the numbers with debuffs, which is a mistake i commonly made when i first was figuring them out

Although everyone think GDH is the best DW, I am going to proof that it might not be what you think.
Assuming at 0 Haste and 0 DPS Mod and 20% Crit rate
Comparing 4 DW
Wind Razor
17-51(61.24)T 1.1sec Crit dmg(51.5-66.3)
Vyemm Fang
26-79 (65.82) at 1.6 sec Crit dmg(79.8-102.7)
Dirk of Negativity
18-103(63.71) at 1.9 sec Crit dmg(104-133.9)
GDH
24-215(59.81) 4.0 sec Crit dmg(219.2-279.5)
60 sec
Windrazor total swings-54 (18 Crit)
36(17-51) + 18(21.5-66.3) = (612 - 1836) + (387 - 1193.4)
Total damage = (999 - 3029.4) or avg = 2014.2
Vyemm Fang total swings 37 (7 Crit)
30(26-79) + 7(79.8-102.7) = (780 - 2370) + (558.6- 718.9)
Total damage= (1338.6 - 3088.9) or avg = 2213.75
Dirk of Negativity total swings 31 swings (6 Crit)
25(18-103) + 6(104-133.9)=(450-2575) + (624- 803.4)
Total damage = (1074 - 3378.4) or avg = 2226.2
GDH total 15 total swings (3 Crit)
12(24-215) + 3(219.2-279.5) = (288 - 2580) + (657.6 - 838.5)
Total damage = (945.6-3418.5) or avg = 2182.1
So in a pure math sense it is better to DW Fang and DoN
Procs and flakey PRNGs create the GDH as #1 DW.

I looked up the thread I posted on, go me! http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/e...ssage.id=15978
Basically, I did some math using avreage values for GDH, only problem is it requires some math work to convert all weapons to the same system, so I gave up on it. The math was also flawed a little for total dps cause i didnt properly change it, but as long as the same formula is shown for all weapons it should be close to accurate.
The range on GDH for me was 72-646 @ 519str
The average non crit hit would be for about 359, ((72+646)/2)
The harder part is considering the average crit, which I found to be 657.6
To find the average crit i took the number of possible hits that would crit for minimum damage(426) and averaged that with all the possible crits that would exceed that minimum crit amount(148).
The average crit amount that I came up with was the sum of all possible crit hits divided by the number of possible amounts the weapon could hit for.
After figuring those out I took the average non crit(359) and added that to the average crit(657.6) multiplied by the chance to crit(x), all over the delay(4):
(359+ x(657.6))/4 = auto attack dps
you can sub in for x whatever the crit chance is, ex: 14% = .14; 17% = .17; etc.
In the end I found the dps with GDH to be somewhere around 113 dps with 14% crits.
Has anyone tested how dmg comes out by using either or both of the 3 Princes dw's. Perhaps having 1 of those and the GDH would produce the best dw dmg overall. If anyone has tried this out let me know.
i always said negativity was the best dw'er
too many people think it's GDH and wurmslayer since they have the biggest ranges which imo is very very much not true

I thought the reason Tang played a birg was because he was to dumb to do math.....
